And can we afford any?
https://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-07-25/what-are-they-worth-kelly-coniglio-martin-and-all-the-other-trade-targets
Quote: | ED LANGDON (FREMANTLE)
Draft pick: Early second-round pick
Value on open market: $500,000-600,000 per season.
Fourth in the Dockers' best and fairest last year and is bound for a similar finish in this career-best season. Contract on hold until the end of the season and starts 2020 as a 24-year-old. |
We'll have a late mid-late second round. But I dont know if we'll have the cash.
Quote: | ANTHONY McDONALD-TIPUNGWUTI (ESSENDON)
Draft pick: Mid second-round pick
Value on open market: $500,000-600,000 per season.
Perfect time to hit top form in games against North Melbourne and Adelaide. More likely to stay but has received interest from elsewhere in Victoria. Turns 27 in April next year. |
Wouldn't that be an absolute classic. He isnt leaving Essendon tho.
Quote: | PADDY RYDER (PORT ADELAIDE)
Draft picks: Late second-round/early third-round pick
Value on open market: $400,000-500,000 per season
Seeking a two-year deal and currently exploring the market. Starts next year as a 32-year-old so his trade value isn't through the roof, but could command a handsome wage, especially if there's more than one bidder. |
Need a back up ruck. But not on that wage. Not at that age.
Quote: | JAKE KELLY (ADELAIDE)
Draft picks: Late second-round/early third-round pick
Value on open market: $300,000-400,000 per season
Has played 60 of a possible 64 games since the start of 2017 as a valuable role player in defence. Doesn't look like leaving anytime soon but could easily command the average wage if he wanted to return to Victoria.
|
We can afford this. But it doesn't sit well to trade for a guy we could have rookie drafted a few years back. Would cover the loss of Langdon if we had him now.
Quote: | BRAYDEN SIER (COLLINGWOOD)
Draft picks: Late second-round/early third-round pick
Value on open market: $300,000-400,000 per season
Forced to work for senior selection this year, the 21-year-old showed in last year's finals series he can cut it with some of the big-name inside midfielders in the competition. With an abundance of similar types available this year, his value may be hampered a touch. |
Def need to keep him. Had a rough year injury wise. Would listen to trade offers, but I think he's an important part of the future. Word on the street, is that Essendon are very interested.
Quote: | TOM CUTLER (BRISBANE)
Draft picks: Late second-round/early third-round pick
Value on open market: $300,000-400,000 per season
Rivals only have to look at his 18-game 2018 campaign as to what he can provide. Has been stuck in the NEAFL for much of this year but as a 192cm wingman presents something different. |
Just look at the size of the bloke.
Free Agents:
Quote: | STEPHEN CONIGLIO (GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY)
Draft picks: First-round pick (compensation)
Value on open market: $1.1m-1.3m per season
Should he move, would be a long-term deal upwards of $1 million per season. Would be the easiest of all free agency decisions to award a first-round pick to the Giants. |
Would be great, but we dont have the cash.
Quote: | ADAM TOMLINSON (GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY)
Draft picks: End of first-round or second-round pick (compensation)
Value on open market: $500,000-600,000 per season
Key-position player adds more value to any move. Has been durable and missed just one game in three years so clubs won't hesitate on a long-term deal. A four or five-year deal could determine what the Giants are left with. |
Fits a need.
Quote: | TODD GOLDSTEIN (NORTH MELBOURNE)
Draft picks: End of second-round or third-round pick (compensation)
Value on open market: $400,000-500,000 per season
Whether the 31-year-old gets a third year added to his deal would be the difference in what pick the Roos would get in return. |
If he wants a shot at a flag, he can come here. But the Saints might offer a lot more cash. He wont want to be back up either.
Quote: | JAMIE ELLIOTT (COLLINGWOOD)
Draft picks: End of second-round or third-round pick (compensation)
Value on open market: $350,000-450,000 per season
Seeking a two-year deal at the Pies, would a rival club trump them with three to get him to leave considering there's no pick required? Would be a contract based around trigger clauses for games played. Turns 27 in August and has played nine games in two seasons. |
Interesting call coming up. At 27, can we afford more than 2 years?
Quote: | STEPHEN HILL (FREMANTLE)
Draft picks: Third-round pick or nothing (compensation)
Value on open market: $400,000-500,000 per season
Body concerns in the past two seasons will hurt but a club may be open to a healthy one or two-year deal for a readymade player who could play a key part in a premiership. |
If he brings his brother with him then do it.
Quote: | SAM JACOBS (ADELAIDE)
Draft picks: Third-round pick or nothing (compensation)
Value on open market: $250,000-350,000 per season
Finds himself on the outer at the Crows with Reilly O'Brien now assuming the No.1 ruck mantle. Would be interest for the 31-year-old if he was to pursue a move elsewhere, given the lack of quality ruckmen on offer. |
Could fit the back up spot nicely for a year. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

Thought Hugh Greenwood might have been amongst this lot.
Out of contract at end of season and the Crows don’t seem keen to renew.
( unless anyone has heard otherwise )
Wouldn’t figure as a big trade and can play both high forward and mid field.
He’s a big boy and enjoys the hard ball.
Best and worst are poles apart. That’s the challenge. |

I should have mentioned in the OP that i didn't list every player from the article.
Quote: | HUGH GREENWOOD (ADELAIDE)
Draft picks: Late second-round pick
Value on open market: $350,000-450,000 per season
Seeking a longer stay at the Crows before re-committing. Before then, rivals will be offering the chance to be a starting midfielder with the ability to go forward for 2020 and beyond. Starts next year as a 28-year-old |

Hugh Greenwood has been dropped again by the Crows. The times I have seen him play (only on tv admitedly), I have rated him. I know he is midfield type and we have a few of them but I can imagine him playing up forward for us. Another ex-basketballer for us? _________________ kymbo |

Cheers Presti. I’m not sure we’re going to figure in any high profile trades with our cap restrictions, so my thinking is that these “ fringe players “ with upside are the more likely targets. Didn’t realise he was that old though. |

VERY heavily linked to the Cats for 2021.
You might have to ask them. |

Posted at the same time Baz. My mail and it comes from the father of a Giants player ( not Cameron’s dad 😂 ) is that the Cats are all over him and he’s seriously considering the move.
I was told not till 2021. Don’t know why, I’m guessing that coincides with him coming out of contract.
Who knows but this mail has got it right in the past. |

I'd find a way to find the ca$h if I was the club.
We have plenty of leverage over under-performing, out-of-contract spuds who couldn't find the football if it hit them in the face, at this point in time.
And we didn't expect to be in that position earlier in the season.
I'd also suggest a few players perhaps expecting a wage increase in 2020 are also going to be sorely disappointed at this rate, with what they are currently bringing to the table.

Pull the trigger and get him; we are again running out of talented tall defenders. If we hadn't snaffled Roughead for a bargain last year, we'd have been out of the eight weeks ago; season over already. _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |

We are unlikely to have the trade currency or cap space to go after any big names so how about Wylie Buzza from Geelong?
Big forward at 199cm and has some genuine presence out on the field from the little I've seen of him.
He has something there to work with but has fallen behind Ratugolea in the pecking order.

I'd rather throw everything we have at Grundy, JDG and Stephenson to secure them long term.
Use whatever draft picks we have on young kids, to be next in line behind C. Brown, T. Brown, Daics, Quaynor, Noble and Kelly; those likely to become important players for us over the next 5 yrs or so.

Yeah, like you Swoop, I haven't seen a lot of him but he looks OK and fits a need. We'd have to trade though to get him. Maybe we could con them into taking on Sam Murray. _________________ Side by side. |
