It's very subjective, personally I'd prefer Scharenberg and Maynard to Luke McDonald and Connor Blakley. Jordan DeGoey could have been included in the midfield, consistency probably cost him.
We also gave up two first round draft picks for Treloar.

Grundy and Langdon are ineligible (you have to be under 23 the entire season to qualify). Otherwise, Grundy would be the only serious choice for first ruck (he's hardly going to be omitted in favour of Wright or some guy called Darcy from Fremantle). Ramsay, Aish, Scharenberg, Crocker, Brown and Daicos didn't play enough football to be considered.
De Goey probably wasn't consistent enough, although he probably has more talent than quite a few who were selected.
Phillips and Maynard aren't good enough.
That leaves Moore. The chances of Moore making the final 22 must be slim but, then again, there aren't too many star KPFs in the squad, either.
There are plenty of competent players at Collingwood aged between 23 and under 25 (Treloar, Adams, WHE, Grundy Langdon, Crisp), so it's more about the arbitrary cut-off than anything.
We do have a list problem at the other end of the age range, though. We've got a raft of guys over 25 who didn't play much good senior footy this season (for one reason or another). Keeffe, Thomas, Sinclair, Mayne, White, Cox, Varcoe, Wells. There are a couple of ways to look at that, of course - one is to say that Varcoe and Wells are in the best 22 if they're fit and I agree with that. Another is to say that 20% of our list is players over 25 who don't get on the park much. That's a serious concern. Keeffe, Thomas, Sinclair and Mayne should all join White in the exit queue. There are also a number of other senior citizens that really lack the polish to be an important part of a good team but continue to play because they're the best we can put on the park. Of the guys over 26, only Reid, Wells, Howe, Pendlebury and Sidebottom are capable of playing footy at a consistently high level and two of those 5 are week-to-week propositions. |

| Without Maynard and JDG that squad and who picked it lacks credibility. I'd like to see how their stats, tackles and pressure acts stack up to most of those players. I'd put money on it that Maynard are better than 95% of those defenders |
