Very sad news. One of , if not the greatest personality our club and indeed football has ever produced and had the pleasure of witnessing.

Vale Lou , vale. 😔

This has hit me harder then I though it was.

Had the honour and privilege of meeting Lou on several occasions, and one word always came to mind, class.

He was just a nice guy to everyone he met. Gave his time to anyone who wanted it, and never complained or backed away like most in the public eye do today.

He was the living example of Collingwood too, his family tree was the Collingwood football club. Damn his family had three Collingwood captains in it.

He will be missed, but along with Bobby, Jock and the rest of the many Collingwood legends he will never be forgotten.

Vale Lou Richards, a great Collingwood man.

For a kid growing up in the NSW bush who's only access to the VFL was via media, Lou was a staple and cemented my love for Collingwood.

Legend.

Same here. Growing up in Townsville I always looked forward to both him and Peter Landy calling the game on a Saturday arvie.

This is a very sad day.

He will be missed. RIP.

You couldn't help but love Lou - he was a larger-than-life character and he was omnipresent when we were kids. Lou and football were just so closely connected and he seemed to have the respect of all, irrespective of who they played or barracked for. And after we put up with all that misery from 1958, he actually buried the Colliwobbles for us all. One of the most enjoyable moments in Collingwood history from one of the finest of all Collingwood people.

RIP you little legend.

Knowing Lou, I don't reckon hed want us being too sad, he would want us to remember his witty and cutting humour, his jokes, and his great footy stories, many of them classics, that he told on League teams and world of sport. My favourite one was when he was our Captain, in the 1953 Grand final. It was late in the game, and the cats were coming very hard at us, only five points down, with bob davis playing the game of his life. Anyway, Lou is rallying our troops, when his brother Ron goes down with cramp. Rons on the ground in pain, and Lou runs past him and yells out "GET UP you weak little bastard, we have a flag to win here and now, get up right $£$%^%%$ now "Well, Ronnie jumped up, ran as fast as he could, took a great mark in the centre, and passed it to bob rose, who kicked a magnificent sixty metre goal, which sealed the game for us, we then hung on. Lou loved that story, and was so proud of that winning grand final, and rightly so. He really was larger than life.

The Club should organise a tribute game at Victoria Park to remember and immortalise Lou Richards. He loved our true home spiritual ground and played his best games there. And the AFL can bestow Ledgends status upon him if they can just once find the decency to do so.

Yeah maybe, if the bloody senior team now, could just fire up and win this weeks game for Lou, in his memory, that would be great too. Exclamation

He was Collingwood Captain at the time I first became a Pies barracker (early 50s) Cheeky Lou was always my idea of a typical Magpie. Thirty years later League Teams was always my "must see" television show on a Thursday night. Vale Lou Richards the man who moved from footy champion to media star and entertained in both roles.
