Well, another poll in 2018 found more positive results in Australia, but still returned a 42% unfavourable rating here, only 1 point below America’s unfavourability rating in Indonesia! (54% expressed a favourable opinion here.) Again, Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Mexico, Russia, Spain, Turkey and others all returned majority unfavourable ratings. So I’m not making this up.

Interestingly, it seems to have a lot to do with Trump – a lot of these countries returned much more favourable ratings of the US when Obama was in office. _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange

Melbourne isn't Australia. There's a reason people outside of the People's Republic of Dandrewstan talk about walling it off or nuking it |

If hating America is a perfectly reasonable sentiment, then so is hating China and some religions. |

^ I think that’s a topic for another thread, but I’d argue they’re very, very different cases (for better or for worse). Of course, I’m sure favourability ratings of China this year would be an interesting read. _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

Showed that:
Labor would win the last federal election
That Brexit would be defeated
That Hilary would win the last USA election
And on and on it goes - polls are irrelevant and usually wrong!

That's because it was much easier to rate the country favourably when it had a president who could get down from a podium without falling over. Nixon was spry, too, so he probably rated better in the international community than Slumpy does. He certainly had better domestic approval ratings than Slumpy - as to which, see the comparative graphs here:

^ Nothing to do with my friends. At best it seems around 50/50 nationally. _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

It's probably not necessary to ask 5 people on here what they think. See instead, eg:
https://www.sbs.com.au/news/new-poll-suggests-trump-causes-australians-to-form-unfavourable-view-of-us
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-06-20/donald-trump-a-threat-as-trust-hits-new-low-lowy-institute-finds/9879924
There's a wikipedia article that contains some references to further sources and sets out this introduction (I'm not endorsing the use of wikipedia just indicating the sort of things that are already about and have been measured):
Quote: | According to a 2014 BBC World Service poll, 44 percent of Australians had a "mainly positive" view of the United States and 46 percent had a "mainly negative" view, for a net rating of −2 points. No similar survey was conducted to ascertain American perceptions of Australia.[1] According to the 2012 U.S. Global Leadership Report, 55% of Australians approve of U.S. leadership, with 21% disapproving and 24% uncertain.[2] In a more recent 2016 Pew Research poll, 60% of Australians approve of U.S. leadership.[3] In 2017, a major poll conducted in Australia by the Lowy Institute showed that 77% believed an alliance with the US was important for security.[4][5] However, the survey showed that 60% of Australians had developed an unfavorable view of the US as a result of President Donald Trump.[6] The survey also showed that the US was no longer considered Australia's "best friend", a title now held by New Zealand.[7] A 2017 survey conducted by the Pew Research Center showed only 29% of Australians had confidence in the current US President Donald Trump, in contrast to the 87% who had confidence in the former president, Barack Obama.[8] It also showed 70% of Australians had no confidence in the current US president.[9] The annual Lowy Institute survey revealed that in 2018 only 55% of Australians believed that the US could act responsibly in the world.[10] This was a drop from 83% in 2011 and a record low.[10] The survey also revealed that 70% of Australians do not think that Trump could act responsibly, with only 30% believing otherwise.[10] |

Since the external perception of countries is typically linked to the perception of their leaders, I suspect that any recent downturns will reverse quickly if the US elects an actual president in November. |

Captain Coronavirus indeed. The man who has presided over catastrophe continues to be a clueless, corrosive oxygen thief.

Yes, but it's not about "hating" anywhere or any group. It's about a perfectly rational and sensible learned distrust, dislike, and fear of consequences. _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

You couldn't engineer decline any better than these two half-witted narcissists have contrived between them. Just pathetic, vile, malignant utterly incompetent pieces of dog faeces. And that's their strengths on a good day. _________________ In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

Trump's latest publicity stunt was to visit Arizona to announce that 320 kilometres (200 miles) worth of the wall was complete.
Yer right.
That's 320 kilometres out of a 3145 kilometres border. The 320 kilometre project took Trump three and a half years. At this rate, it will get finished in October 2051, or at around about the same time that he gets out of jail.
Of those 320 kilometres worth of wall, 315 kilometres was replacement of an already-existing barrier, leaving a massively unimpressive 5 kilometres, yes, you read that right, 5 kilometres, worth of new wall.
And no, Mexico didn't pay for any of it. _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |
