Nathan Buckley offers support for under-siege Damien Hardwick

May 5 2016 - 11:40AM
Jon Pierik - Fairfax

Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley has rung Damien Hardwick and offered his support in a week the Tigers coach - and his club - have been under tremendous pressure.

Buckley and Hardwick have much in common at the moment, each dealing with seasons where expectations of their clubs have not been met.

The Pies have only the two wins and the Tigers have one, heading into a crunch weekend for each side.

Hardwick, who remains a great friend of Hawks mentor Alastair Clarkson, said on Thursday Buckley had accidentally rang Hardwick's wife before getting on to his coaching counterpart. Buckley had been given the wrong number by AFL Coaches' Association chief Mark Brayshaw.

"He has rung Mrs Hardwick. Mark Brayshaw gave him the wrong number. Why Mark Brayshaw has got my wife's number, I am not so sure," Hardwick joked.

"We had a chat. The one thing the coaches' association has grown in is, look, we want to kill each other on weekends but I think as a group of men, we have started to understand, we are all in this situations at some stage. So we lean on each other a lot more than we used to. That's not to say I don't want to kill Clarko this weekend."

On more serious matters, Hardwick, dealing with what he has said been an off-field "hurricane" this week, has "guaranteed" the Tigers will overcome their poor form and will take to the field with a rejigged game plan against Hawthorn on Friday night...

No DTM, they actually don't. I bet you MM hated Bucks when MM coached the Scum.

I have this eerie feeling that somehow, some how, the Tigers will beat the piss and poo this week. Upon what logic I base that on, I do not know just a gut feeling sorta.

Tigers played pretty good footy for 3/4 however the Hawks also stepped up from last weeks poor game!

Tigers playing like that will beat 10 teams in the comp -and push a few others… just bad luck they came up against the Hawks looking to bounce back…

that last quarter was so much us against the eagles last week. Valiant until a few costly errors break your resolve then the better side goes into a feeding frenzy.

ceglar, that great missed opportunity, scored just before 3/4 time. that proved to be a pivotal moment.
