Trying to pick out a few players. From the top one it looks like Bob Rose and Lou Richards at the start of the bottom row, next to McHale is seems to be Phil Ryan.
This link has the same photo as being from 1946 (some of these have the year printed on the back).

While Lou Richards is also in the bottom photo (middle row, second player) I can't link the photo to a year.
You might have better luck matching players with the original photo in hand. The below link allows you to see photos of the players who played in a certain year (just filter by season). Each player only has one photo though, ie their picture doesn't change from season to season.

Does any-one know from which year these teams are from?
The coach Jock McHale so they are pre 49. |

I'm also guessing the photo might have been taken at the first home game of the season.
In 1946 Collingwood played Hawthorn in Round 2 at Victoria Park. The game lists 20 players as having played on the day and there are 20 players in the photo.

A bit of detective work.....
By looking at the best known of the players we start building a time line. The photos has real stars in it; Phonse Kyne, Bill Twomey, Bob Rose, Lou Richards, Gordon Hocking, Len Fitzgerald, Marcus Whelan. That places the team in the mid to late 1940's
That's corroborated due to Jock McHale being coach so it's between 1945-49.
Black shorts, so a its a home game.
Bob Rose debuted in Round 17 1946, plus Marcus Whelan retired in Round 6 1947. So there's the window - between late 46 & early 47.
Tellingly, arguably the best player of the time Des Fothergill is not in the team.
So find a game between Round 17 1946 (to account for Bob Rose) and Round 6 1947 (to account for Marcus Whelan), have Mann, Hocking, Twomey, Fitzgerald & Kyne all playing, but Fothergill absent.
Bingo!
Saturday May 10 1947 at Victoria Park v South Melbourne.

Nice work, I was meaning to check to see if the page I linked to was accurate with regards to the year, turns out it isn't.
With a quick look and similar logic the bottom photo has Ryan, but not Rose. Ryan played a handful of games in '47 however Rose also played in those matches, so it has to be before Rose's debut (R17 1946).
Some info on the photographer

The bottom photo has some good clues as well. In the second row we have Lou Richards, Alby Pannam & Des Fothergill. Lou first played in 1941. Des Fothergill won the Brownlow in 1940, but buggered off to the VFA and didn't play for us again until 1945. Alby Pannam played right through the late 30's and early 40's, and was captain in 1945. In the photo he is sitting in the usual 'captains spot'. But that was his last year.
So the only year that had Lou Richards, Des Fothergill & Alby Pannam in the same team was season 1945.
This is also supported by the absence of Phonse Kyne, who did not play in 1945 still returning from military duties. But he was a star and barely missed a game from 46-49.
So it must be 1945.

Using your basis, eliminate games missed by any of the named players (2, 3, 6, 8, 9, 12, 20) and games not at Vic Park (5, 7, 10, 14, 15, 17, 2x finals) and it's down to six rounds 1, 11, 13, 16, 18, 19.
EDIT:
I think rounds 1, 11 + 19 can be eliminated from the above, leaving rounds 13, 16 + 18.
It looks like Len Fitzgerald on the end next to Richards and he didn't play round 19. Tom Wallis looks to be either in front of or next to Richards, which would eliminate rounds 1 and 11 for the same reason.
I can't place any others to narrow it further, although it seems Neil Mann who only played R18 isn't pictured. The below played some of these matches and missed others.
Alan Brown - R18
Bill Dalkin - R13
Jack Green - R16, 18
Ken Herbert - R13
Len Hustler - R13
Neil Mann - R18
Harry Mears - R13, 16
Guy Moore - R13, 16
Herb Naismith - R16, 18
Dave Newman - R13, 18
Ron Smith - R16
Bill Twomey Jnr - R16, 18

The player on Lou Richards right is Tom Wallis. I grew up living next to tom who was always Uncle Tom to me. He played from 1942 to 1947 and the photo looks to me to be late in that period. Tom's son Gary played in the 1966 Grand Final as second rover.

Here is a closeup of Tom on the "Forever Collingwood" page taken from the team photo in question.
