Interesting....

The AFL has just revealed its new father-son and northern academy bidding system. This new reformed bidding system defiantly equals more of a fair resolution in my eyes, and it will defiantly be intriguing to see how much clubs are willing to give up for star rated father sons...

Have a read of this article, it gives a good perspective and understanding of the new system.

Upon reading that my conclusion is we need to now hire a mathematician and would that person come under the coaching salary cap?

Another bulltish system to nobble clubs who have had more quality players than the newcomers.

This.

Apply this crap bidding system to the academies if you want but leave the father son alone. We should all be defiant of this rubbish.

Not sure that a club would use their top picks for a F/S when they should be used to address a weakness.

Eventually the amount of eligible sons will dwindle to nothing with this change and with players starting to swap clubs more frequently because of free agency.

I think they deliberately make it hard. The fairest way was to leave it as it was!

It might work out all right. Smart arses like Footscray and the Dockers bid and if club says not worth it they are stuck with it. They end with a player who might not want to be there.

I don't mind the concept of trying to even out the benefits some clubs derive or have derived from F/S. And yes, the Pies are one of those teams.

Not sure discounts for academy players is the way to go though given the clubs that have them do so off handouts provided by all other clubs. I consider myself a charitable person but paying someone to disadvantage myself is a bridge too far.

My brain hurts after reading that. Reading the ATO guidelines is far simpler!

Sorely needed. The unfairness of zoning to interstate clubs had to be addressed. Not sure if this completely solves the problem but it's better than it was.
