Hello, I was just wondering how he has been going? Haven't heard a lot from him lately.

Funny that, as he rings me twice a week. Wink

Saw him play VFL last Saturday. Played better in the second half. Improving slowly but surely. Kicking quite good for a new to footy player. Needs to get his timing right in the rucking contests but that will come with more experience. Confidence will also rise. One really good thing is that he is manic when the ball hits the ground.
Very happy that the club took a risk with him. This could end up well for Collingwood if he continues to develop at the same pace.

He's tracking extremely well and is way beyond where the coaches expected him to be by now. He is a Seppo remember so he's bound to be a bit slow, but his kicking and marking are awful good for a guy who never played the game this time last year. Last week in the twos he rucked by himself for the first time against Geelong AFL ruckman Dawson Simpson and was named among the best, so he really couldn’t be doing much better. At this rate he'd have to be considered for a spot sometime this year, but with big Reg rucking like Len Thompson at the moment and Witts still the favoured #2 in the ones, there'd need to be an... (I can't write the word, but it starts with 'I' and means when someone gets hurt) for Mason to get a run, but imagine having a third string ruck who's 7 foot! pretty cool eh?

I watched part of the VFL replay from the
Club website.
I was really pleased with the way he was in the thick of the packs.
There was some quick handballs and kicks from in close.
The are certain areas for non AFL players that are extremely hard
to master.
Mainly in close, where to position yourself and 2nd and 3rd efforts.
He has progressed a lot since the first 2 rounds.

I reckon if he keeps working on his marking, he could develop into a full forward, similar to Paul Salmon.

Watched Q4 of the VFL and was impressed by his ruck work and attack on the footy.

If at some point finals are out of reach I'd like him to play every game, there's no training like on the job training, VFL Is good but he'd get a lot more out of playing seniors, he looks a much better prospect than Shae.

No surprise he has good inside vision with his B ball back ground.

An aside: does anyone know why he gave up on his basketball career in the states? Who was he playing for the year before he came to Collingwood?

because he's was undrafted out of college (like 99% of the super talented college basketball players in the US and 99.995 of the super talented white kids).

He couldn’t play NBA because his results at the draft training camp just weren't good enough. He could hardly chop a line, and his dollar bill rolling was frankly abysmal, as was his hooker bashing and getting arrested in Ferraris, he just didn't have it.

That's why West Coast weren't interested in him.
