Was certainly solid but given his injury history think he'll have a few weeks of VFL ahead of him. |
More like a few years, you would think, barring injuries to the players of his type who have gone past him: Seedsman, Oxley, Langdon, probably 'Berg as well before too long.
I can't see Bucks favouring PK over the likes of Dwyer and Blair and Seedsman.
Gault is the obvious out. He hasn't done much at all in the last two outings: first up he battled with a wet ball, a night game, and good St Vomit backmen, vs the Bombers, he was comprehensively toweled up by Fletcher - still the best third key defender in the business by quite a margin, so no disgrace there. Nevertheless, just having Gault there makes a massive difference to our side. Our attack works and the other forwards are significantly more productive with a third prong there beside them. Given Gault's own lack of achievement, you'd reckon the smart thing to do would be to replace him on a like-for-like basis. If everyone was fit, you could very sensibly -
- Play Reid at FF, Cloke at CHF and White replaces Gault
- Play Witts & Grundy at FF, Cloke at CHF and White replaces Gault
- Replace Gault with Moore
- Play all three of Keeffe, Brown and Frost, with one of those three going forward to replace Gault. (OK, not Frost.)
But Reid is nowhere near it yet (if ever); Witts needs another couple of weeks at VFL level to complete his recovery, Moore is injured (and training as a defender anyway), and the less said about Keeffe's situation the better. That leaves us with -
- Replace Gault with PK
- Play Gault anyway and hope he comes good against the hapless Blues.
I'm inclined to stick with him v Carlton. If he has no impact against them, then it will be time to try PK, or maybe by then one of Reid or Witts will be ready.
For mine, no change to the side, but Dwyer starts on the park. Sub: Pendlebury. Give the champ a half-day off. It's only Carlton after all. _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

You would expect no change barring injury. |

No change this week…
Witts and Reid are still a few weeks away… however Gault is the guy who needs to step up.
PK and Witts could come in if he does not start to have more impact… but as others suggest it will be in a few weeks time! _________________ Love us or Hate us... we are Collingwood - you can't ignore the Mighty Magpies!!! |

I see Gibbs is already touting the "we must win for Mick" line in today's media. I hate these types of games, eg. big milestone for favourite son/special clubman etc.
They are going to be fired up. Never mind the fact that he's never beaten Bucks in a real game - something that brings a smile to my face everytime I'm reminded of.
Let's be honest we should win. I agree with what someone else said too, Blues aren't as bad a some think, although worth remembering that they were 10 goals down against the Bummers and really only got the biggish win against the Saints will some very late goals.
Must win. Huge opportunity to build a pretty good win loss record in these opening 10 weeks now. Week after we got the Cats and they're ripe for the picking..... and then!!!

Dwyers problem is running out 4 qtrs. of footy. If he could he'd be starting 22 every week. He's the perfect sub IMO _________________ No Pressure, No Diamonds

Nah, no need for it, just get swannie to stride up and ask Dollar Daisy-had he played- does the old bloke still tuck him into bed at night, and read him Winnie the Pooh bedtime stories ? Bound to have got a reaction. _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

With Goldsack used back in defence along with Brown, Frost, Williams, Toovey and Ramsay I'm not sure there's a place in the team for Oxley, just at present.
I'd drop him back to the VFL for a couple of weeks and bring in De Goey for a full game. I would also consider leaving out Gault to bring in Karnezis, though I doubt this will happen. So my tip is Oxley out, De Goey in. |

I'll be shocked and gutted if we can't beat the scum.
We have every reason to lift for this game as well.
I feel Buckley understands the importance of these matches to the supporters and deep down would love to spoil Mick's party for his own personal reasons.
Play like we did against Essendon and we should win comfortably. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

Just a reminder of why we hate them:
1980 first game, after the heartbreaking 1979 GF loss; Carlton cheer squad banner read:
"Collingwood bow to your conqueror"
1982 game at Vic Park after 1981 Grand final - Carlton cheersquad banner read:
"How do you win a premiership? Play Collingwood"
1999 banner read: "we've ruined their Centenary, let's wreck their Millennium"
Right now this Showpony team would be flat out conquering a cold, but beware the snake in the grass! |
