Quote: | COLLINGWOOD will back its young leaders, headed by elite midfielder Scott Pendlebury, to take the team back into finals contention in 2015.
The Magpies' leadership group has been trimmed from eight to five. Retirees Luke Ball and Nick Maxwell are absent while Lachlan Keeffe and Clinton Young have been omitted from the 2014 group.
In their place, Tyson Goldsack has been promoted to join incumbent leaders Travis Cloke, Steele Sidebottom and Nathan Brown as Pendlebury's lieutenants.
In August last year, coach Nathan Buckley asked his younger players, like Sidebottom and Goldsack, to take their leadership to another level.

Bit Surprised that Goldsack was Promoted to Leadership Group.
No Surprise that Keeffe was dropped from it

Goldy leads with everything he has out on the field and is a fine example to our kids out there. _________________ Smells like Pies Spirit |

Yep, a kind of Maxy type. I'm very pleased for him that he is getting acknowledged in this way. |

I'd like to see Adams push up into the leadership group next year. |

Seems like a slightly odd group of five. Not the five I'd have expected if I had to guess. The longer I think about it though, the better it looks. As mentioned, I'm yet to be convinced that Brown can make it back to the top drawer after all his troubles, but he's certainly not one to skimp on any little extra thing he can do to improve. The same goes for Goldy. If you blindfolded someone in the outer, someone who follows the game, and said "pick me 5 players who never drop their heads and train till their boots wear out", you could easily wind up with these five. _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

i don't think he did too mich wrong. it may have been a casualty of reducing the size of the group. he can still be an informal leader around the club. if you listen to him talk amongst the group you can sense he is an emerging leader. he does need to focus on getting his game right and cementing his spot so the reduced committment might do him some good. _________________ Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle. |

The 2015 leadership group!
Pendles as captain is a no-brainer! He leads by example and has been reportedly been a great mentor for the youngsters especially Jordan De Goey so his leadership skills are improving and after 2014 he would have learnt a lot from the experience in the past 12 months.
I really like the inclusion of Goldy! The guy is tough as nails and leaves no stone unturned on the footy pitch. Absolutely love the way he plays the game and he sets a great example of how the game should be played for the younger players. Nathan Brown is a risky one due to niggling injury problems so I hope he can repay the club's faith.
It's finally good to see Sidey coming of age and stepping up as a leader of the side as we need some new leaders to come through now and Sidey fits that bill well. I've never seen Cloke as a real leader but as an experienced player and key forward I'm sure his leadership abilities have improved with maturity and throughout the years.
Someone who deserves consideration in the coming years is Jack Frost in my opinion! Just checking out videos of the club in Falls Creek and in Queenstown he always seems to be one of the most talkative players around and his encouragement towards his teammates is second to none. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023

^ Jack Frost leads the defence already. Bit hard to stick him in the leadership group when he isn't on the senior list though! _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

The fact that he's been leading our defence despite all the injuries around him speaks volumes of how much progress he's made in the past 12 months in all facets of his game.
He really should be on the senior list soon though. I think with Scharenberg and Macaffer sidelined with knee injuries this year this will mean he'll be elevated to the senior list by the time the season commences. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023
