"..Actor Derek Fowlds, known to millions for playing Bernard Woolley in Yes Minister, has died at the age of 82.
He also played sergeant-turned-publican Oscar Blaketon in ITV police drama Heartbeat for 18 years, and was "Mr Derek" on the Basil Brush show in the 70s.
The actor died at Royal United Hospital in Bath on Friday morning, after having suffered with pneumonia....You couldn't have met a nicer person ever" said his assistant Helen Bennett

Yes, very sad news. Bernard was a great character - how many and varied ways was it possible to say the words “Yes, Minister” - I reckon he had about 7,000 different nuances.

He was fabulous as Mr Derek, too - I suspect that being able to hold his own with Fabulous Fox got him the gig in Yes Minister: only a really fine supporting actor could find space in a program mixing it with Nigel Hawthorne.

Very well expressed Pies4shaw and thanks for alerting us WPT. An incredibly gifted actor, who brought a huge amount of enjoyment to viewers.
"Yes, Minister" was such a brilliant series - so insightful and hilarious at the same time. Must go and find some episodes to watch again......

It hasn’t dated too much and is still a hoot. So well written (and acted of course)

And so it began:

This was one of my favourite episodes - where the Minister was meeting with the Arabs and sneaking off to imbibe. Smile
