The players returned to the Westpac Centre this morning for the first official training session of the new footy year. It was a very early start. So early that after we arrived at 9am we were told we had missed it! Not to worry, we decided to have brekkie in the cafe instead so the trip wasn't entirely wasted.
That led to further disappointment; the breakfast menu has been trimmed to save money for a chef I suppose, so the bacon and eggs is off the menu. We settled on fruit salad and toasted sangers and coffee (still good), before the cafe was over-run with players - the whole list it seems. Without wanting to be nuisances we subtly got some info from the players as they waited in line for their skinny lattes. Taylor Adams reported that the players had come in for a quick work-out and were now, after the coffee and snacks, were heading over to the MCG for detailed team meetings. This involved time-tabling for the summer training programme, pre-season game details and so on. I'm not sure why the whole list of coaches and players were heading to the MCG, but maybe space is an issue when all staff are expected to attend.
Anyway, Darcy Moore, Sidey and Sinkers were happy to join in for family snaps and my octogenarian uncle found out what he's been pondering; who the ruck coaches are (Rocca & Matt Rendell) and what Ben Johnson was up to.....we still don't know, but a very dapper Johnno was seen deep in discussion with three other club employees.
All the players looked in good nick, although Jon Marsh's Samurai hairstyle and scruffy beard was a surprise.
Training officially starts on Wednesday. _________________ After the epic draw comes the decisive knockout!

Made mention elsewhere that Rendell was himself a fairly handy ruckman and could potentially take a few specialist coaching sessions. Gets him involved at the coal face as well. Pebbles wasn't much of a ruckman but you could probably write on the back of a postage stamp with a wet mop what he doesn't know about body positioning. Happy with that.
Thanks for the report NA. |

Thanks for the report Neil.
Some important questions first:
1. How was the fruit salad?
2. Did the less protein breakfast this year cost you more than you paid last year for the full protein breakfast? _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |

Thanks for the training info.
But I'm a bit worried about the bacon and eggs. Didn't anyone at Collingwood watch Catalyst last week? Carbs are out and protein and fat are in! Seriously it's the easiest meal to make in the hospitality industry |

Thanks for the update, Neil....very much appreciated. On a sad note, very sorry for your loss........the bacon and eggs. Surely the club can organise a bacon and egg flipper?

The three of us dined for $21 which is very reasonable. I did complain fiercely to the young waitress that there was nothing for my no carb diet and she suggested the fruit salad with yoghurt. The others feasted on ham/cheese/tomato croissants. I did notice that Jackson Ramsay and Jon Marsh had scrambled eggs and salad, so there's obviously some favouritism going on. I'll try them again on Wednesday when we officially begin our 2015 journey. By the way, we weren't the only complete tragics who'd miscalculated; at least 5 or 6 other people had made the trip in.
I did get some info about about the Anzac Day Blockbuster Membership though. The Club has announced the two other games in the three game package are:
R.11 Collingwood V GWS
R.18 Collingwood V Melb
Hardly blockbusters, but great seats in Level 2A in the Southern stand. _________________ After the epic draw comes the decisive knockout!

Does Rendell get a pay rise and do we have to declare it on our tax on football department spending? |
