Found this article on the SEN page. Surprisingly good article.

Quote:
Is Dayne Beams the best player in the competition that no one is talking about?

The stats say yes.

While teammates Dane Swan and Scott Pendlebury receive the lion’s share of the plaudits, Beams sneaks under the commentators’ radar.

Good read, good stats and data, fact is Beamsy rates on every measure right up there with the best midfielders in the comp, but flies right under the radar. Love the kids work ethic. Long may he be under rated.

You know Beams is back to his best when he starts kicking multiple goals.

It's one of the reasons why I have always liked him as he get's plenty of the ball but is dangerous pushing inside the f50 arc.

Let them underrate him. We've known how good he is for years.

Thanks Stui.

A great read. Considering him at 11 and he lasted until 29. Wonder what players were picked in between in that draft.

2008 was a good draft. We got the mighty duo Beams and Sidebottom, and the monster Leigh Brown, and other clubs picked themselves duds like Jack Watts

We got Jarrod Blight and Luke Rounds in the 40's.

Imagine if we'd got Michael Walters and Rhys Stanley who both were drafted after these lads!

^'Sonny' Walters can play. As for the other, we may as well have drafted Paul Stanley from Kiss to play imo.

Pre draft I posted an in depth summary of Dayne. Having known him since he was very young there was more to him than just his obvious skills.
Hine did his home work very well. His father was a tough as teak player around yarrawonga (don't know the league name there) but he won several B&F's his father had a chance to go to the AFL but stayed on the family farm after a family death. When they moved to QLD his father played for Southport the powerhouses on the QAFL and I think played in 4 or 5 premierships there as well.
Both boys (his brother Claye is on the Lions list) wer raised with a football in one hand and a cricket bat in the other. Both played A grade cricket on the gold coast at 15.
Both were cut from the same cloth as there father. Knew how to work hard and not just at football. There wasn't any silver spoon in the mouth everything they got in life they earned and I think this is what we see today in Dayne.
I spoke to his father over Easter over a couple of refreshing beverages (as you do) and he said Dayne was so eager to keep improving and to lift his game to a level that he see Pendles and Swanny on. His father (who's nick name is teapot) said he idolizes Pendles work ethic and wants to be held in the same regard around the club.
His father made a interesting comment in regards to Bucks that Dayne often spends time after training (on nis own time) reviewing his previous game with Bucks and asks him where he can improve and what he could better. He said Bucks often highlights little things on the video and offers advice to him.
He said Dayne believes that since Bucks arrival at the club his game has grown so much from the direct input of the coach who has always loved seeing players who will do extras to improve there weaknesses.
In 2012 when he won the Copeland he was second only behind G.Ablett in average disposals per game over the season and had a goal kicking average higher in accuracy and also kicked more goals than Gazza.
He may not win a brownlow with Pendles and Swanny taking votes (and they may not win them as well with Dayne taking votes) but i believe is every chance of polling well as he doesnt get reported, doesn't get in umpires faces, always works hard and most importantly always in the action.

A very well documented stat sheet provided only further highlights to me his importance to the team.
