We have over 20,000 more members yet WCE earn 60% more in revenue. We must include a lot of 3 day memberships in our figures.....

AFL figures obtained by Fairfax Media show a massive gulf in membership earnings between the Perth clubs, Collingwood and the rest during 2013, while infant club Greater Western Sydney technically made a loss on membership of $400,000 as a result of extra "fan development" costs.
West Coast earned a staggering $16 million in net membership revenue (what clubs made once costs were subtracted) compared to Collingwood’s $10.4 million and the game’s rising financial power, Fremantle ($10.2 million). Adelaide ($7.6 million) and Geelong ($7.1 million) were fourth and fifth, ahead of closely bunched Victorian powers Hawthorn ($6.3 million), Richmond ($6.3 million), Essendon ($6.1 million) and Carlton ($6 million). |

No shock there, look at the teams around us, Adelaide, Freo, Eagles and Geelong, they all have their own stadiums that have no walk up at all.
Pre selling reserved seats for every match makes more money than having an average of 60k turn up with half of them walk ups.
We are doing amazingly well considering where we play. |

Remember that they charge alot more for membeships than we do.
I think 11 games for them costs something like $600.
I paid $336 for an 18 game gen admission membership.
Smaller staduim, higher cost to obtain a memebrship.

You'll pay double for a seat at Boobiaco oval compared to anywhere else.
Plus they've had 436 different jumper designs in their 20 odd year history, so they sell squillions to the morons over here.

But doesn't this demonstrate that our bragging about having the most members is silly? Any team could have over a 100,000 members if they sold them cheap enough.
Total revenue is the yardstick in my opinion.

I agree...but isn't this whole "we have more members then you" junk anyway? ....I would be happy for every club to have more members then us...as long as we preform where in counts. Match day |

Interesting graph showing the breakdown between the different membership categories.
Collingwood looks to have the highest 'reduced' membership total as far as I can see - no doubt the ANZAC day 3 game marketing campaign plays its role.
I'd like to see a membership tally based on total games sold by each club.
Also interesting is the % of AFL club support members. A Grand Final between Collingwood and Carlton will be a dog fight to land decent tickets for AFL members. Likely to be some years away of course...... |

If the AFL persist with their ticketing policy and CFC persist with a three game membership package which guarantees Anzac Day when I can't easily obtain a seat as a season ticket holder then I may have bought my last membership. There is no point.

Not at all.
We are making over 4 million more than a powerful club like Hawthorn who has a large membership themselves.
The interstate figures are merely a result of two team towns playing at smaller stadiums who are able to force supporters to buy reserved seat packages so they can watch there teams.
Lucky them.

We have the highest proportion of members buying home and away memberships. You can discount the Hawthorn home membership totals as it includes four game Tassie members. We are a mile in front of all clubs with average revenue per member apart from the interstate clubs who have reduced capacity and can force every member to buy a membership that includes a reserved seat. Our success in selling so many game day memberships means that our revenue is being constrained by a high proportion of seats at our home games being sold to members and reducing our revenue from walk ups. Great to have heaps of members but the finance dept at the club have the continuing challenge of plugging the revenue hole from lack of walk ups and gate receipts.
