With debate raging on whether or not Leon should be picked for the preliminary final I thought I'd put together the cold hard stats of his finals performances to date for your viewing.

A quick summary:

He only registered 3 tackles in the 2002 Grand Final.

The most possessions Leon has gathered in a final was 20 back in the 2008 elimination final against the swans.

The most number of goals he's kicked in a final is 3 which was achieved both times against Port in the 02 and 03 final series.

Leon has not kicked more than 1 goal in a final since the 2003 preliminary final against Port Adelaide.

He's gone goalless in 3 out of his last 5 finals.

He plays for mine.

We don't rely on Leon to get us home, but his defensive pressure is excellent.

if he doesn't get a touch, he'll have taken a good backman to mind him, freeing up someone else and if he does the defensive job, he's justified his selection.

He is Micks pet project.
It was MnM who picked & played him in both GF's though he clearly wasn't ready for it!
You wanna blame anyone, blame the coach!

I don't have the greatest knowledge of our teams from the past, even as recently as '07. But perhaps someone like Medhurst or Lockyer would better serve us in the finals campaign?

I don't think any of the younger players are up for it (Brad would be great to have around Sad).

Even if they can't perform the same role as Leon, or the role his meant to perform, at least they're perform at some level.

On top of that I'm sure they could manage to shuffle players around a bit, maybe even chuck Heater up there and Goldy down back, or even Goldy to just replace Leon's position. With so much depth there's no excuse for him to stay in the side if he can't perform, and I hope the selector's are pro-active on this issue.

You won't get anywhere with that mentality. Obviously it would seem a waste to have spent all this time with him to just drop him now, but it needs to be done.

In a game where we thrashed the opposition, he still didn't manage to play well; and it's not like he has a bad record against the Dogs. Leon needs to rest up for next year methinks.

Not sure where this is going, but I'm bored. Especially after watching Game Day Primetime. Maxy was OK though.

So, hmm I'm going off topic. Must get back to topic.

Oh yeah. Leave Maj alone.

The club must look Leon and Medhurst in the eye and work out who is the hungriest. This is a big call, but one which only those within the club have the knowledge to make. I'll back whoever is picked. Fwiw (which is not much), my gut feeling is that Leon will be given one more chance to fire. If he fails in the Prelim - but we win - then Medders will get a late recall to the side for the Granny.

He's been such a fave, the crowd still lights-up when he's near the ball.

Ooh this is a tuffy. Stats aren't everything, but it aint a good look.

You need a game-burster Leon. Next game. And the one after that.

With Medders as 19th man.
