The issue for cyclists in 2012 is going to be "dooring". There's going to be a campaign for drivers me included to use their left hand to open the door. This is designed to prompt drivers to look before opening their car doors because we all reflexively & unconsciously open the door without paying sufficient attention.

Apparently its been a successful as a campaign in Europe. Mind you so has wife swapping in Scandanavia but I digress.

The campaign hopefully works 2 ways. Cyclist who see a car pull in to park ahead of them should be wary of the driver getting out as they approach.

No point having the head down pumping the pedals then blaming the people in cars, keep the head up and be aware of the surroundings.

The campaign Stui is for drivers & car doors. In cases of dooring its the drivers fault in legal terms - like hitting the car in front of you when driving.

Bicyclists have to be cautious - thats why I ride on the extreme right of a bicycle lane - to allow a car door to open unexpectedly.

My best defence is knowing how to whistle reasonably loudly without using fingers - it gives others a chance to look up. The other thing I use is my front light on flash - often can be seen ahead of times.

Most of the time things are pretty good but Taxi drivers are the woist. There's this tradion of late that cab drivers thing its a good idea to mill around chatting leaning on the car door next to the bike lane & near tram tracks - that's a ripper. I ofetn say unto them to go forth & multiply & if they would be so kind as to move to the other side of the road. Passengres getting out of Taxis on the drivers side is another source of potential "dooring".

I believe all TRAFFIC (similar to an ambulance, police or the old dial a Dinos vehicles" should make way for Warnie. If some cyclist thinks they are more important than SKW, he should have the right to run them down and sue for damages.

all sounds a bit suss, just happened to happen just after his rant a few days earlier - and im guessin his car is not a beat up commodore - some one hits the back of my car, im going to take a look not just wave at them with 2fingers

i do agree about registering bikes though, there are too manycowboys out there

Whilst I agree with registering, just like front number plates on motorcycles it's not practical. As far as enforecment goes, seriously the police do not have time, they are to busy arguing over beards and nail polish. Insurance should be a requirement but you cannot enforce such a thing.

In Warnes case ramming the cyclist from behind should be an option. I am sure he has rammed many a behind. Razz

The cyclist has responded and disputes Shane Warnes version of events , also says that he has a number of witnesses and police photographs

Said cyclists version of the Shane Warne incident here :

If this cyclist can get his bike repaired, can I get money out of cyclists who cause excessive wear on my brake pads?

Do you really think that ?

That is really sad if you do ?

Such hate for cyclists , yet so far none have been killed this year in victoria , only car drivers/passengers and pedestrians
