What Fitzroy merger?
They went belly up. They had an opportunity to merge with Footscray but didn't. The rest is history.
The Brisbane Lions is just a confection of mythology. Brisbane simply stole the old ID of Fitzroy to bolster a Victorian supporter base.
Fitzroy FC now plays in a local league.
You're right though, there should be other mergers in Melbourne. |

Mate, if you know my posting history, I would be about the last person on this board being called one eyed or an excuse maker.
My point is that I'm happy to take any Collingwood result as long as its on a level playing field. If, we're not good enough, so be it.
But how can we call something a level playing field when we have a draft and salary cap and again, we will enter a period where two clubs have the pick of the bunch, and most importantly, a massive allowance on the salary cap! |

not to mention a ridiculous draw that is now seemingly being influenced by who clubs pick up in trade week. e.g. swans vs bulldogs. once upon a time there was an ideology that all clubs would play each other the same amount of times in a given period. that ideology, like the maximising attendances one has been put out to pasture because it was sensible. _________________ Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle. |

A 20 team competition is going to be a very average one.
That means having to find an extra 120 players. Teams are already so ordinary.
There were only 4 teams capable of playing consistent footy this year, and another 1 that had a good patch late in the year.
Even St.Kilda had spuds playing in the GF.
How on earth do we have an entertaining and top notch competition when it is going to require so many spuds to fill the vacancies. _________________ There's more to life than footy.........just not much more. |
