I was looking for the earliest footage I could find of him, and this may be it: from 1981, when he was a mere 39 years of age (and just won the position of mayor for the first time) and ... yep, as one of the kids says in that other video, major Doc Brown vibes. Laughing

He used to be funny

When was he funny?

He's a partisan hack and the Australian version of Stephen Colbert. He suits the ABC perfectly.

He was actually funny on Full Frontal, but that was before you were born. Wink

He and his show “mad as hell” remains very funny; especially now when there’s so much material to work with.

Yep, you don't get to chose your own nickname. Over periods of time different people will bestow different ones on you, the ones that you hate most are the ones that inevitably stick.

Speaking of which....

Made me think of a couple nicknames that stuck throughout the years... My sister is called Gayle, when she was little she couldn't pronounce it & if you'd ask what her name was she'd proudly say "Gooey". She's now 48 and is called Goo, brother's kids only know her as "Aunty Goo".

The other is Dad's uncle, Uncle Mick. Well, poor old Mick passed away a couple years ago in his 90s. I read a notice in the paper and thought, who is this person? Oh no, they've got his name wrong - asked Dad, he said no, that's his real name (can't even remember what it was, something like Ronald). Turns out when Mick was little he always wet his pants so people called him "Mickey Dripping Drawers", Mick stuck, Uncle Mick stuck, he even called himself Mick! I had zero idea that wasn't his actual name Laughing

He's a comedic genius and only a partisan hack, or someone that finds Dave Hughes funny, could deny it.

LOL, Yup.

My daughters name is Amanda. From day 1 I was all over family, if anyone called her Mandy they got a real bake, so it quickly stopped. If she wanted to answer to Mandy once she was older (which she doesn't) that was her choice but I wasn't going to let others make that call for her.

On the other hand, the old physical attributes always get a run.

My Dad was a short red head, he naturally got Blue or Bluey.

I had white blonde hair as a kid and skin that wouldn't tan, so working in mum's milk bar as a 7-10 year old I copped "Casper" (the friendly ghost) from the teenagers who inhabited the pool room. 45 years later there's some old phucks up in Toc who only know me as Casper.

Heard on QI tonight:

Capitalism can be described as Man’s exploitation of Man
In Communism it’s the reverse.

Got up for a widdle in the middle of the night, half asleep and of course kept the lights off.

Managed to miss the bedroom door and walked head first into the wall on the way back.
