The Far Left Trotsky Loons of this world do more to further the right wing agenda, than the right wingers themselves! |

I don't mind that you don't like Bill O'Rielly, David. Just make sure you don't like him for legitimate reasons.
I think he is important because he provides balance. He himself might not be balanced, but in a world dominated by Leftist media outlets such as, (in a USA context), MSNBC and the New York Times you need people like O'Rielly to even things out / keep these other media outlets in check.
In order to be more informed / enlightened / balanced on political issues, individuals need to be willing to expose themselves to both liberal progressive AND conservative thought. Wouldn't you agree David?
With this last point in mind, I would be genuinely interested to hear which conservative columnists / broadcasters you do watch, read and listen to? I am always up for discovering news people who make sense. I'd therefore be just as interested to hear which progressive/leftish of centre voices you follow too. Just so long as Katherine Deveny isn't mentioned!!!!! |

Well, considering that American culture appears to be skewed right of center, I'm not exactly sure how you view their media outlets as 'leftist'. Perhaps it all comes down to perspective, but I certainly don't think O'Reilly provides balance, except maybe between center-right and far-right.
As for print media, I generally read The Age, which some might see as skewed left of centre (or maybe reporting the news with some degree of integrity is a 'left' trait? I dunno...), and if you're concerned about my daily intake of vitamins, minerals and conservatism, don't worry, my parents are more right-wing than you and Bill put together. So I'm getting a pretty rounded perspective.
Not that I think it's necessarily beneficial to listen to far-left and far-right sources. If I spend my time alt-tabbing between the Australian Communist Party website and white supremacist forums, am I getting a rounded perspective? No, I'm just listening to a bunch of extremists with an axe to grind. I'm not saying that O'Reilly is an extremist, but he's certainly a devotee of a political ideology with an axe to grind, and frankly, when it comes to news sources, I don't really see the value in that. There are plenty of interesting perspectives from centrist (or thereabouts) sources to listen to.
BTW, last time I watched O'Reilly, he was having a go at the students of some school voting a lesbian couple 'cutest couple' in a yearbook. It was mind-numbing stuff, and dissolved any respect that I might have potentially had for him. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Some have suggested that he's holidaying in Madrid or Barcelona, but I don't have any proof of that. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

i don't miss Sheriffe....had him on ignore so didn't know he was 'missing' |
Sheriffe certainly doesn't seem to be posting. No burning political issues at the moment? I thought he'd be on here screaming at the lack of democracy shown by the Chinese trying to have that Uigar woman and her film banned from the Melbourne Film Festival. (Oh no they are communists aren't they. ).
Actually I have seen Sheriffe on Nick's reading. He's just not posting. |
Actually, if I read Sheriffe's views correctly, he would not consider China to be Communist. I don't either. Therefore I would guess that he would oppose the Chinese behaviour and probably support the right of Uigars to self detirmination. _________________ Born and raised in Black and White |

What is the SA stance towards China? I don't even know, though you'd presume they'd be pretty strongly anti-China in regards to their human rights violations, et al. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Socialist Alternative would regard China as State Capitalist. Or at least, the International Socialists, from whom the SA split many years ago, used to regard China as State Capitalist. I haven't had much to do with micro-Trotskyist organisations for many years so it is possible that SA has changed its analysis in more recent times.
Hey Sheriffe, you should come back and defend your own politics rather than relying on ageing ex-comrades to do it for you! _________________ Born and raised in Black and White |
