Quote: | I am the self-appointed and unofficial leader of the Floreat Pica Society, a group of people who are connected (by being on an email list) by a passion for the Pies.
While some of us have known each other for many years, indeed we went to primary school together, others have never met.
It started in 2005. Over the previous few years I had been occasionally writing match reports for my lifelong best friend Stork (aka Paul O'Connell) who spends approximately half the year interstate and overseas. I enjoyed writing them, he enjoyed reading them, they started getting circulated to others, and we now have 40-odd on the list, including two of my teachers from secondary school in the late 1970s.
Floreat Pica is the Pies' Latin motto, meaning Prosper the Magpie.
Floreat Pica Society members receive a weekly emailed match report (most weeks written by myself) including the awarding of 3-2-1 votes for the Michael Horsburgh Medal, named after Michael Horsburgh who played four games for the Pies in 1980. |
