Quote: | COLLINGWOOD captain Nathan Buckley today announced his retirement from the AFL.
Flanked by Magpies president Eddie McGuire and coach Mick Malthouse, Buckley made the announcement at a press conference in Melbourne this afternoon.
Buckley admitted he was feeling "a bit numb" about his decision but admitted he could not trust his body any more.
The 35-year-old has captained the club since 1999 but has been hampered in recent years by hamstring problems.
Buckley, who played 280 games for Brisbane and Collingwood, won the Brownlow Medal and six Collingwood best and fairest awards.

Well done on a great, great career. One of the most professional players in the game who knew that to get the absolute best out of himself, you had to give 100% on and off the field.
Its been great to watch the evolution of Bucks as a player and person from his FIGJAM days to an Inspirational Captain and Leader of the club.
Once again Bucks, its been a pleasure. |

Lucky I'm home sick today so I could listen to this I had no sound either but just turned on SEN who were playing it live.
Great to hear what eveyone had to say, espesh Mick who always speaks well. Wont be the same without Nathan at the club for the next couple of years, but Ed pretty much said he wants him back. However alot can happen in a few years. However I think he'll be great in the media, is a very intelligent and articulate man so I would think the media will be falling all over him to snap him up.
Thanks for the memories Nathan - you will be missed

Thank you Nathan for all of your time and efforts over the years. I have been fortunate to speak to him on a few different occassions and he always made time for everyone. He was something special and should immediatley now be remembered as a legend of the game. We were all just lucky enough to follow the ride.
