Post subject: Collingwood Assistant Coaches finalised | |
|
Collingwood has announced Brad Gotch and Michael Broadbridge as assistant coaches to new mentor Mick Malthouse.
Broadbridge, who played 144 games in the Westar Rules competition, was last year named u/18 All Australian coach after leading the Western Australian side to the National Championship.
He has held the position of WA u/18 coach for the past four seasons and will join fellow West Australian and former North Melbourne premiership player Dean Laidley as Malthouse’s assistant.
Gotch had an VFL/AFL career spanning ten years, playing 96 games with Fitzroy and St Kilda.
He became involved in coaching with VFA club Dandenong as an assistant in 1991, and eventually led the club in 1994.
After moving to Springvale in 1996 and winning the premiership, Gotch took over from Ray Jordan at VSFL U/18 club Prahran Dragons in 1998.
His ultimate triumph came this year when the team defeated the Bendigo Pioneers in the grand final.
The naming of Broadbridge and Gotch completes the coaching staff restructure at Victoria Park.

Very pleased to hear about Broadridge joining us, as I've heard really positive things about him. Gotch sounds like good news as well.
Spoke with Ray "Slug" Jordan and David Parkin last year about who they think make the best coaches. Both agreed that coaches who've been successful with junior (esp. U/1 sides are best, as they have to know how to mould and develop players and their skills. Pagan was opinted to as a prime example (coached successful U/19 sides).
