What a horrible thought.
Now, there's a strong argument that homosexuality can be cured ... just imagine John Howard in the middle next time you're going hammer and tongs

We have heard the Bible being quoted a lot this week. I heard the dictionary quoted today.
Wedge Politics and the ultra right religous zealots are in full voice. It could be the difference in a tight election.
Most people don't care about gays and lesbians. Most people have freinds that are that way. If they wish to tie the knot, good luck to them. .
Just think of the money we can save on benifits Howard should be thinking. |

I say let the gays marry... why should we be the only ones miserable? _________________ The armchair critic that does nothing but knock the doers of the world is to be despised as a traitor to evolution |

I always thought that the role of government was to ensure its people live a happy life.
So why not allow same-sex marriage?
It would make plenty of people happy and it does no-one else any harm whatsoever.
At the moment our government go out of their way to ensure some in our community life a miserable life. |

why can't same sex couples have the same rights as defacto couples.
THAT isn't fair, but then the self righteous little Johnny (how far should i bend over) Howard isn't a fair person at all. _________________ Jacqui © Proud Pies 2003 and beyond |

I'll state this first: I agree I think gays should be allowed to marry, after all it is their own personal decision.
However, PP and others don't be so quick to reject Howard's opinion on the matter. His claim is based around the concept that gay marriage completely changes the whole concept of marriage, which is one of society's oldest institutions. There is probably a fear that this will do further damage to the concept of family, which was hurt so much by the divorce laws of the 60s and 70s. I disagree with Howard on the issue but his opinion is more than just self-righteousness. _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

David,
Please read my response again. Did i actually mention the word marriage? No, I said that gay couples should have the same rights as defacto couples.
Interestingly enough, defacto couples have the same rights as married couples.
I remember in the 70's to be in a defacto relationship was still taboo and you were 'living in Sin' if you chose to live together.
Into the early 80s and the defence force finally admitted that defacto relationships were entitled to the same accommodation, AND BENEFITS (including being a benificiary of superannuation, death benefits, etc), as married couples were.
Twenty years later, you would think that Gay Couples could be afforded the same rights as defacto couples get, including being a benificiary of superannuation, death benefits, etc) _________________ Jacqui © Proud Pies 2003 and beyond |
