I wasn't sure whether or not to post this out of respect for Sophie Heathcote but, since the papers have, I'll attach the link here for you to read.

They ambushed Eddie at Sophie Heathcote's funeral to see if he'd be running Channel 9.

But wait, there's more (this one doesn't mention about the funeral, so have posted it in full here)

McGuire eyes the top spot at Nine

TELEVISION identity Eddie McGuire has his eyes on the top job at the Nine Network and is reportedly being considered for the role by acting chief Sam Chisholm.

Rumours about McGuire's push into management have been circulating since last May, when Nine's then boss David Gyngell quit the post suddenly.

The speculation picked up again this month after Nine missed out on the AFL broadcasting rights for 2007 to 2011. McGuire hosts Nine's The Footy Show and is president of the Collingwood Football Club.

"He's been pushing very hard for the top job," a source close to Nine said yesterday, adding that "it would be a risky appointment."

Another television executive said McGuire would be more suited to a management role in Melbourne, as Nine would need a strong presence in Melbourne without the AFL from next year. They said he had been offered a role as the head of Nine Melbourne about a year ago but turned it down.

Australia's biggest media buyer, Harold Mitchell of Mitchell Partners, said McGuire would be a good choice as Nine CEO. "He's a great communicator, enormously competent and very ambitious," Mr Mitchell said yesterday.

A Nine Network spokesperson declined to comment yesterday and McGuire was unavailable.

So, if he picks up this role, it looks like Ed will no longer be our President, considering the role would involve a move to Sydney.
