Australia cruises on to 4/458. Hayden is 236 and Lehmann, 16. Their 50 partnership came from 43 balls.

The world record is definitely on.

Hayden scores so quickly. He needs 139 from here.

He could reach the record before tea.

He has the best conversion rate of 50s to hundreds of the modern era. Only the greatest batsman of all time has better.

Yes, HAL.

Irvine just took his 4th. wicket when he caught & bowled Lehmann for 30. The partnership of 96 came from 82 balls.

Hayden is on 267, 109 from the record. His problem may well be that Waugh will be looking to declare at around 650 so he needs to hit the 109 from the 140 odd Australia want.

Mark Taylor's 334 n.o. and Sir Donald Bradman's 334 are certainly gettable.

Australia's run rate is 4.5. Excellent for Test cricket.

Milestones ahead for Hayden: Bradman's 299 and then Bob Cowper's 307, scored at the MCG - the only triple Test ton in Australia.

Next comes Gooch's 333 then the 334. 44 runs after that, the world record comes up.

Hayden goes to 296 and 18th. on the all time list.

The tension builds as he goes to 298 and on strike.

299 and level with The Don and Martin Crowe.

300 up !!!!

Congratulations to Matthew Hayden. He becomes only the 16th. batsman to score a triple century in tests.

Australia are 5/574. Gilly has a run-a-ball 33.

Hayden goes to 307 with a six !! Cruises past Rowe and Bradman.

Level with Cowper as the highest Test score in Oz and passes Gilly's 8 sixes record.

Records falling almost with every run scored. Australia move to 600.

Hayden moves to 311 which equals Bob Simpson's 3rd. highest by an Aussie.

Now 312 and clear 3rd. 22 runs away from the famous 334.

Gilly races to 54 with a six !!

No, Dave. I remember seeing him try to edge a ball past the only slip (Tillekaratne, I think) for his 300. He didn't edge it wide enough.
