Well, Javed Miandad's 'choker' comments will be ringing in the Proteas' ears after a thrilling victory by Pakistan in the first of the ODIs.

Chasing 277, Smith and Dippenaar put on 138 for the first wicket but Shoaib Akhtar dismissed Smith (71) and Kallis (1) in 3 balls.

Dippenaar and Mckenzie then added 101 for the third wicket before Akhtar struck again. In the 46th. over, he claimed McKenzie (62) and Boucher (1).

When Sami sent Pollock (0) back to the dressing room in the next over, S.A. had lost 3/4 in 8 balls. They ended up 9 runs short after twice looking like they were cruising.

Dippenaar's 110 n.o. from 131 balls was a top knock but Malik's 82 from 41 deservedly took the Man of the Match award.

Pakistan racked up 7/267 in the second match. Youhana top scored with 65 and Ntini took 4/46.

Another good bowling effort from Pakistan restricted S.A. to 9/225. Sami was awarded Man of the Match for his 3//20. Hafeez also bowled well with 3/37.

Dippenaar (57) and Kallis (42) added 89 for the second wicket but it was downhill from there. Hafeez dismissed them both and Sami brilliantly ran out McKenzie (3) and Boucher (5) as S.A. lost 4/30 in 4 overs.

2 wickets each to Peterson and Ntini have made it difficult for Pakistan to amass a really big total.

After 44 overs, they are 6/192. Latif and Razzaq are good lower order hitters but even 10 r.p.o. from here is only 252.

Razzaq scored a good 46 n.o. from 38 balls to get Pakistan to 8/243. A competitive total.

Ntini took 3/45.
