Hey guys! i have a speech tommorow and i have been away on holiday so only found out today! It has to be on an issue so i picked Euthanasia. I was wondering if you's could answer 1 question. It is a yes/no/unsure answer. If you wish to make a statement you can, as i can incorporate that into my speech as it has to go for at least 4 minutes.
Pick yes if you are 'For' it.
Pick no if you are 'Against' it.
And unsure is obviously if u are unsure.
'Do you think Euthanasia should be legalised?'
If you dont know what Euthanasia is.....
'Euthanasia is the putting to death, painlessly, of a person suffering from an incurable and painful disease'.
Here's some points if you need to make up your mind
FOR
*People should be able to die with dignity instead of passing away when they dont know where or who they are.
*You wouldn't have to suffer.
AGAINST
*If they find the cure you would of already taken your life.
*If you choose to end your own life and you dont succeed you could end up more disadvantaged then you were beforehand.
*People could take advantage of sick people by saying they killed themselves, just so they could take there money.
These are just parts of my rough copy speech.
Thankyou very much for reading this post, and thankyou very very much if you help me out!
Love always, Alyssa xoxo

I am for Euthanasia because I know I would personally rather like to be able to make the choice to die when I am ready rather than wait until my body has been ravaged by a disease to the point where I am in constant pain, have no control over my body and spend my days just waiting for the illness to reach that point where my body finally gives in.
If it was an animal in the same situations 9 times out 10 the owners would put it down as it is the kindest thing to do. Why shouldn't a person be allowed to make the choice that they have put up all the fight they can against a disease, and that they are ready to die. |

For it, but only in cases where people are in extreme pain and they are only alive because they are on a drugs. i.e. they might be a vegetable. |

Against. Like everything it would be the few who manipulated the law and spoiled it for those who genuinely may want to die. It would only take one murder or abuse of the law to make it not worth legalising - 1 is too much. Man cannot handle such responsibility. _________________ My oxygen is Collingwood. Without it I die.

Yes I am "For" if the outcome is definately inevitable.
There is nothing more important than quality of life and being able to die with some dignity. |

yeah i am also for it - death with dignity and being able to decide that you are ready to go and that you dont want to suffer any more is very important. I also remember doing this issue in VCE - geez they dont change the curriculum much! |

For
If you are allowed to put an animal out of it's misery, why not a human being? No one needs to suffer. I am not saying they deserve to die, but it would really be better then suffering for the rest of their life before actually dying. Watching a loved one suffering like that isn't a happy sight, and I think that should be put out of their misery. _________________ "The minute you start talking about what you're going to do if you lose, you have lost." |

Alyssa,
I'm all for Euthanasia. After having watched my father suffering for 7 years with Terminal Cancer, i believe that everyone should have the choice to die with dignity. Before his death, Euthanasia was briefly legalised in the NT, and he said at the time, that if he had been well enough to make that trip, he would have, so that he didn't have to suffer anymore and could have his dignity retained. _________________ Jacqui © Proud Pies 2003 and beyond |

Just to be different i'll go against. As was stated before people could really take advantage of it, and have people killed that don't want to die. It also depends if you believe in an afterlife, which i don't so i think people should stay here for as long as they can. |

Yes for it.. Legislation would have to contain stringent guidelines in case of dodgy Medicos or overly enthusiastic relatives possibly a independant panel with two or more consultations by specialists. |
