^^^ Ed's is a very sensible response. The only way to make last year's news into this year's news is to comment on it to a journalist.

I realise that. The last thing he wants is to rehash the embarrassment he brought on himself. Was being facetious Smile

Um, no, I think we're lucky that we don't live in a place where that kind of thing is considered acceptable. Pointing out and dealing with racism like Goodes did is essential to making sure it stays that way.

As for the girl being "destroyed", give me a break. Rolling Eyes

How do you know about the girl David?

Is she getting bullied at school? Is her mother?

Every time this comes up it's the Didak thing all over again for her,

Didak, Collingwood player that got in a car with....

"Give me a break" you don't think Goodes did not know what he was doing when he stood and pointed at that CHILD?

Look at where that little point has got him.

Yes, except for the fact that nobody remembered her name 6 weeks after the incident let alone now.

We've already heard from her mother that, like, the very next week, her schoolmates were supporting her and making light of the situation (which suggested to me that the kids of Moe have a lot to learn about racial tolerance and respect, but that's another matter). So, no, I think she'll be OK. I'm still much more worried about the many Aboriginal kids who have had to stay silent when confronted with this sort of (actually harmful and bullying) abuse in the past and needed a role model like Goodes to stand up in the middle of a football game and say that he won't tolerate it.

1061, you'd have to be unbelievably naive to think that Goodes was thinking of potential Australian of the Year gongs when he asked to have the girl ejected. Watch the footage again: his reaction is near-instantaneous. For me, it's pretty clear that:

1) He heard the insult (let us remember that it actually happened—it was not a figment of his imagination).
2) He experienced immediate feelings of shock and anger.
3) He made the decision to not just let it go like he might have in the past, but instead stand up and do something about it.

That's it. That's not just an understandable reaction on his part, it's an entirely justifiable one. I, along with others here, applauded him for it. It was the right (and, I would argue, brave) thing to do.

The argument, still unfortunately made by many Collingwood supporters, that he somehow invented this incident for his own self-aggrandisement, is totally illogical and betrays a really deep lack of empathy for how it feels to be on the end of racial abuse. I guess a lot of people here (me included) simply have no experience of that.

I'd really blame the person that asked Goodes the question, had it not been asked it wouldn't have been an issue. Whether Goodes is or isn't Eddie's friend should remain between them, clearly Goodes is hurt by all that went on still. Whether or not we agree with him being allowed to be hurt over what some feel to be a soft comment is irrelevant because the girl whom may not have known it was racial still made a slur. Eddie still made a mistake, he's tried to make it right but it'll take time to blow over.

This whole saga just shows you that you need to watch what you say, 'cause it could be taken the wrong way and this could be the end result.

I'd call it bullying or/and grandstanding, he's face has been on TV quite often from playing games to being a media performer so he is used to the Media Spotlight. She was a kid just a young teenager whether she actually knew the racial meaning of what she was saying or just repeating what she has grown up with I don't know but she is not an experienced media performer. If you call what he did to that brave and think for a minute he did not have other options he chose not to use then as we already know you and I have different values.

Apart from just letting it go as usual, explain to me what else he could have done.
