Post subject: The Dawes TradeReply with quote

I watched a fair bit of the Melbourne V Crows game on the weekend and found myself actually getting behind the Dee's (who can't feel sorry for a side that has been thorough what the Dee's have).

This bring me to the key point of this thread. I feel the term "Win - Win trade" is an overused football parlance in this day and age. However, given our success at the trade table in 2012 (thus far at any rate) and Dawes importance, and indeed form in the Melbourne game plan. Could his trade be considered a "Win - Win" for both clubs?

On a side note, anyone else wish they had a time machine? Melbourne were paying $8.50 for the win Sad.

Dawes has probably played less than 10 games thus far due to injury and has played one very good game. Still got us ahead at this stage given the Dees are using $500k of their salary cap on him too.

Was happy to see him holding grabs, tackling hard and converting his shots too though.

Didn't want him to leave at the time but not worried now as I don't feel like we've missed him. The trade has made him become a leader because they have such an inexperienced young group which I doubt he would have done with us so it's a win for him personally too. Not to mention the big dollars which were definately more than he was worth at the time.

Lynch was a free agent & although he may have been pencilled in as taking Dawes's position it didn't cost us any picks. We did however get a first round pick for Dawes in the trade period. Kennedy or Broomhead should be a win for us. That doesn't mean I don't rate Dawes or aren't hoping he does well. I just think he needs more than one good game before Melbourne can say they have done well out of the deal.

Glad he played a good game. But let's put it in perspective. Since 2010, Dawes hasn't performed well regularly or he has been injured.

I wish Dawesy all the best but its hard to see in Dreamon colours, still a premiership player , hopefully Broomhead can make his debut this year. The Sweeper has had a tough run on the injury front.

Thing was that Lynch was meant to play the Brown role, and Dawes was always going to be in the side but not rucking. Whatever happened at the meeting with Bucks it seemed to turn him off the idea.

I would have preferred to have kept Dawes, but what's happened has happened and hopefully he remains injury free for the Dees.

If only the Dees could get 1 good game out of all their players.

Has only played a handful of games since he went to the Demons, and last game was his first really influential game. Happy for him, but at the same time, we got a first round pick for a guy who's best ever season was 30 goals.

Can't really say we are worse off without him.

I like Dawes and wish him all the best, I'm still grateful for the instinctive handball to Cloke that he fired out while sitting on his backside that got us the draw in 2010.

There's two criteria that determine how I feel about ex-players, were they pushed? And did they go to a rival or threat?

Dawes gets a big tick on both counts, so no hard feelings here. Smile
