Sorry to hear you've got shingles, WPT. Take care of yourself and have a well earned rest over the bye!

Oh bullshit, there is nothing worse than a man with a head cold. Just like to share the misery. And the germs. And take days off for fishing instead.

Cheers TP.

I do take a few days off each year but overall I seem to accumulate more than I take. Used to take off a lot more when the kids were young.

But it's times likes these that the accumulated leave is good for. I still have Long Service & Annual that I'll be taking.

It's also hard to take leave in positions of responsibility. There is a direct relationship between responsibility & sick leave. The more the responsibility the less the sick leave.

Bingo. All the work is still sitting there waiting for you when you get back. It's often easier to just go to work crook until it reaches the point where you're actually counter productive.

Cheers guys. So far I'm lucky & it is confined to patches on my left leg / hip.

Seeing a Dermatologist today after seeing a GP on Monday.

It works something like this:

WPT: "Dr I think this rash is shingles".
Dr: "Yes, it is shingles"

15 minutes later...

Receptionist: "That'll be $245"

Medicare Office "you get $45 back"

WPT: " friggin crooks....."

Sorry to hear you have shingles, WPT. Very nasty disease. Hopefully it stays neatly confined to your leg and hip. All the best for the recovery.

Exactly why I'm off for 2 weeks now. Hopefully cleared up & hopefully no further consequences.

Cheers. Funny I don't feel too crook - so far so good. Yeah I'm hoping it stays confined too & no after effects.

Pity the timing wasn't around July when the Ashes are on.

That would be a normal day then? Shocked At least there are times when I go to work (in perfectly good health I may add) and wind up going home at the end of it feeling that I'm further backwards than I was before I started.

Mea Culpa.

Good news:

1. It is Shingles
2. Basically it's having had chicken pox before & certain factors can trigger a reactivation.
3. The reactivation can be caused by a number of factors, such as stress e.g., an infection, cold flu where ones' immune system is depressed etc
4. It's contained to the hip / buttock region & behind the knee (a little bit there) - It follows the nerve root pathways
5. The pain I'm experiencing is there but is not the worst I've experienced before.
6. Pain & the experience of pain is subjective - for me so far so good
7. The dermatologist said it is quite unlikely although possible that I'll get the post infection neuropathic pain.
8. My pain subsided significantly after he bulk-billed me!! Fancy that a "specialist" who bulk-billed. My apologies for the slur I made about medical specialists earlier!!

So far I feel lucky. Won't count my chicken's ye just gunna play it one day at a time & stick to the (medical) structures.
