Riding home last night on Brighton Road passing St Kilda Town Hall when it was raining, grit being flung everywhere (inclement would be an understatement), dressed in layers, covers for the back pack, shoes, etc., & along cycling past me is a bloke on a regular bike in his mid 60's to say the least wearing a loose fitting white singlet, pair of short shorts & not much else moving well past _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |

He was lip syncing - didn't notice that - song was average but what the hell _________________ “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” |

Don't think he was lip syncing - especially since he added in a couple "let's hear it Australia"s and other things to get the crowd going. It did look weird, Channel 9 have said it was 100% not lip synced, but there was a 'technical glitch'.
Might be just the same as when people sing anthems at sporting events - looks strange coz the music & their lip movements don't always match up with the sound...?? (can't really describe that very well) |

The lead story on The Age website this morning... for real.
http://m.theage.com.au/lifestyle/beauty/create-education-better-miss-utahs-rambling-answer-on-gender-pay-gap-20130618-2of5q.html
In what world does this constitute a news story, let alone the leading one on the website? The tired ALP leadership story in The Herald Sun looks positively stately by comparison.
By the way, extra 'WTF' points for John Birmingham's bizarre "I'm ashamed to be a man" troll-rant three stories below. I know some of you here like the guy (hey Stui!), but I find him totally insufferable at the best of times (and this is certainly not the best of times). If this passes for opinion in Fairfax nowadays, I'm actually a little embarrassed to have been published by them.
They're putting up a pay wall in weeks to come. What makes them think that anyone is going to want to pay for this garbage? _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

Hey, I like JB, mainly because he writes with a sense of humor that appeals to me. Haven't read the article yet. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

I guess it's all a matter of taste, but I thought today's effort was pretty cringeworthy. Since when did the fact of some right-wing shock jock being a colossal turd have anything to do with the negative or positive attributes of my gender? Can you imagine the ridiculousness of a female journalist writing that Gina Rinehart, Pauline Hanson and the woman from A Current Affair make her ashamed to have a vagina? I get that Birmingham's going for comic exaggeration, but he just sounds like a self-righteous git desperately looking for a bite.

Self righteous, tick
Provocative, tick
Done with a touch of humour, (IMO) tick
Looking for a bite (see provocative) tick
I didn't mind the article, I didn't agree with it all but hey, shit happens.
