Not for Adelaide.
Okay for Geelong.
Dangerfield>Motlop>Scharenberg
Scharenberg, Geelong 1st rounder to Adelaide.
Dangerfield, Collingwood 3rd rounder to Geelong.
Motlop to Collingwood. |
Dangerfield is a free agent. Cats don't have to trade for him |
Dangerfield is not a free agent, he's a limited free agent or something like that. |
That only means Adelaide can match the $$$ offered. I am still right.
|
Geelong will have to trade for Dangerfield if Adelaide force there hand and match any offer.
Could happen, may not. |
If Adelaide matches the offer, Dangerfield must stay or he must go into the draft. If he does that he could end up with substantially less than what he was being offered and go to a different club. Geelong would have no chance. |
I don't think that's right. I'm pretty sure if he goes into the draft he can nominate his contract and any club selecting him is bound to pay it. |
Fair point. Nevertheless, there will be about 8-10 clubs ahead of Geelong who could stump up the cash to match his nominated contract.... _________________ "You must be a parking ticket, cuz you got fine written all over you" Glen Quagmire |

That's someone who wants to play for the black and white. He's a future leader for sure. Any player who is unsure, can f*ck off. |

Wrong, he nominates his salary prior to the draft. _________________ Defender...........

No you're wrong.
http://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/season/free-agency
Quote: | 3. A player has served eight or more seasons of AFL football at one club, is one of the 10 highest-paid players at his club, and is now out of contract for the first time since reaching eight seasons of service.
The player is eligible to field offers from all rival AFL clubs.
If he wishes to change clubs, the player must decide on the best offer of his choice from one rival club.
His club has the right to match the presented offer.
If the club matches the offer, he may choose to remain with his original club, seek a trade or enter the Draft.
If the club does not or can not match the offer, the player can move to the new club of his choice.
His original club will receive a compensation pick for the loss of the player, on an AFL-determined formula to apply where clubs lose more free agents than they gain in any single transfer period.

He's gone in my opinion.
I've always had my suspicions once he started talking about putting off contract talks till the end of the year as it's a common story we've seen time and again from players who inevitably end up leaving.
In Scharenbergs case it's even more peculiar given his injury history with most players in similar circumstances being just content to be re-signed.
|
So where's Freeman going then? Exactly the same situation.
I don't know if he's going or staying and don't see the fascination in being the first to call him gone (Rudeboy seems to like going very hard and early on this ). When the news is out (no not tonight's non-news) I'll think about it, until then he's a Collingwood player. |
Not the same situation at all.
Freeman is Victorian.
He wasn't hyped pre draft as the best schoolboy footballer since Carey.
Scharenberg has a younger brother coming through the ranks at the elite junior level. If he leaves clubs outside of Adelaide would be reluctant to draft his younger brother as well.
Freeman hasn't been subjected to media attention regarding his contract status and hasn't responded by saying he'll put contract talks on hold till the end of the year.
Importantly unlike Scharenberg it hasn't been reported Collingwood has been trying to re-sign Freeman with him unwilling to do so.
I guess it's just assumed by all he will. |
So all we have is media speculation then, with none of it yet saying he's actually leaving. Very thin.
The rest is the same situation as Freeman. I'm ignoring the interview "evidence" as witchcraft, I can't read his intentions from it.
Here's some media speculation in the other direction:

Showing a clear intention to land Aish might be the one thing that persuades Scharenberg to stay if they're such good mates.

Wait and see. |
Or showing the intention to land Aish might be just one more thing that'll see him remain at Collingwood. |
