Post subject: Players I would move on at season's end.Reply with quote

At the end of this year, our club needs to make some ruthless decisions if we are to be a successful club. We need to de-list or trade the following:

Goldsack - a legend, but at the end.
Scharenberg - great skills, but (after 3 knee recos) too slow and injury prone.
Elliott - a shadow of his former self.
Daicos - just not quite good enough.
Wells - we got him 5 yrs too late.
Crocker - a good VFL player.
Madgen - average VFL player.
Appleby - a good VFL player.
Cox - despite his potential, he is completely undependable.
Reid - a physical wreck.
Dunn - after 2 knee recos, he's finished.

Yes, I forgot about Varcoe.

That's 12 players who need to go. That won't happen I guess, so Daics will probably keep his spot.

That’s a lot of experience. Plus who are you going to replace them with?

Not draft picks, because we have none.

Sharenberg was really good last keeping lynch to 1 goal after half time and Daicos is at the start of his career, you are mad

Not sure why we have failed with indigenous recruitment....maybe it goes all the way back to Nicky Winmar and racism within the four walls of the club.

Sheedy seemed to have it going on.

Post subject: START 2020 PLANNING TODAYReply with quote

We can limp into finals and possibly graft out a win and finish an honorable 6th but we are not Melbourne fans nor the Melbourne Football Club. As such, we should plan for 2020 now and base all on-field and off-field decisions around such a premise. Bit like Clarko is doing at the Hawks. You sense from his pressers that anything they achieve in 2019/2020 is a bonus but the pursuit for a genuine tilt at silverware is likely to come thereafter. Hopefully our window is more open and in terms of on-field decisions, I would urge for the following:

Midfield:

* Revamp it with bulls not flakeys. So continue with DeGoey, add Maynard, play Sier (when fit), Pendlebury, Greenwood and Adams as the pool of choice and consign Treloar and Sidebottom to the wings at all centre bounces.

Re-educate these players:

* Phillips: drop to the Reserves for the rest of the year and tell him until he wins one on one contests, commits to sticking 5+ tackles a week and learns to kick with his right foot, he is stuck with Jared Rivers as his coach

* Maynard: does everybody remember round 23, 2017 when he was given his one and only time in the midfield? Dominated, was able to use his kicking prowess for inside 50's NOT exit 50's from defence.

Put a line through these players:

Varcoe, Crocker, Appleby, Reid (obviously)

Give 4 weeks Senior gametime to the following players:

* Rupert Wills: let's get the ultimate and final answer
* Tim Broomhead: " " "
* Tyler Brown: replace Phillips on a wing
* Tyson Goldsack: likely last year but his 1 wood is his aggression and toughness which we are completely lacking at the moment
* Jamie Elliott: tell him he has 4 weeks to prove he wants to play for the Magpies in 2020

Positional changes:

* Sidebottom: 50% up forward
* Maynard (as stated above) to midfield
* Rest Grundy at Full Forward (more often)
* Move Crisp back for Maynard. Jack unfortunately has "Edward Scissorhands" and as such is a liability on the ball
* Keep Daicos deep forward where his skills are best utilised. Too small for midfield.

OFF-FIELD DECISIONS:

Like most of us, I'm not qualified to opine other than:

* fix our fitness department
* draft some talls
* terminate judiciously players
* have a crack at Bradley Hill and some fit big blokes!

Interesting Pendlebury, Brereton and Lyon comments on SEN.
See things very differently to the knockers, pessimists and doomers on this forum. All highly qualified to speak about these scenarios.
