Well if the mods did the right thing and created a separate forum for women's football I bet only the fans would go and comment.
Collingwood BigFooty has done it and so should Nick's. |
Been thinking the same thing. Then anyone interested in it can go there and those of us who don't rate it won't bother. Makes sense. _________________ 'Collingwood are the Bradmans of Football'

Or we could just leave it here, bring back the general AFL comments as well instead of consigning them to the graveyard, and people could behave like adults and not post bagging comments in thread topics that have no interest to them.

There is literally nothing and nobody forcing those posters who say they don't care to comment in the AFL Women's threads as it is.
Well, that is, except the posters who say they don't care themselves, but who seem to care a great deal about telling the rest of us how much they don't care about something they don't care about.

Yes, and a lowly two flags in sixty yrs is calling you, Flags for the REAL Collingwood team is all that matters ever, not these distractions. We exist to win Flags in the AFL, nothing else even comes close. Ever. |
Don't sell us short! - its 3 flags in sixty years. |

Thread titles are there for a reason. It is a posters choice to actually enter and read, well that would be my expectation of an adult forum user. |

Provided it is administered properly with appropriate marketing and AFL support, then yes, it will last.
You only need look at the Women's Big Bash to see that. It was a shambles originally but has really developed into quite a spectacle. It has the advantage however of being able to be a 'curtain raiser' (albeit with an hour or so between games) to the men's stuff. |

I assumed I'd be nuts about anything with "Collingwood" on it, and I don't think it will die, but I do think it was probably launched a few years early.
No doubt the skills & Stamina will improve greatly before too long, scoring in the second half will be a bonus too in our case, & the first 10 minutes of the first game was mighty disappointing. 6 ball ups & maximum 25 metre kicks didn't look too great, but when it got going it certainly improved.
I don't think Fox did it any favours with its blanket 50-times-per-day ads. Those people need a foot up the arse!
But when all is said & done I think it’s a great think that girls can dream of playing professional footy, and it will be another step on the road to ending the sheer bloody lunacy of women being paid less than men for jobs they're often better at. That has to change before we can call ourselves civilised, & I hope Australia is a leader in the inevitable change. _________________ "If at first you dont succeed...

Please don't make a separate forum. Some lazy creatures of habit (like me) only really frequent the General discussion area. I'm not exactly a rabid fan of the woman's game as it is, but I do have a general interest and would like to read a bit of key info from time-to-time. If the women's threads are pushed into their own dusty corner of Nick's, I may forget that we have a women't team at all.
I still haven't recovered from the laugh at Carlton thread being moved. |

So, what you're saying is that Danny Roach has 'earned' the status of a Collingwood Hero simply for having managed one senior game with the club, but Moana Hope hasn't because ... why, again, exactly? Is it possibly because she's a woman? _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

Danny Roach sure did earn that right, but on the big stage he failed and will he will forever be the butt of scorn amongst us. |

Yes, I think it will last for a while yet. The AFL isn't going to give up on it after a season, considering the thorough time and resources it utilised in setting up the league in the first place.
At the moment, it's a novelty act, but nonetheless that will help supporters remain interested in the league in the short-term.
It won't be known for a decade if the women's league can survive in the long-term until younger talent rises through the ranks and the motivation of becoming a professional footballer becomes a possible reality rather than an idealistic dream for young girls. At the moment, many of the players haven't even played football on a regular basis.
I can't say I've invested much time in the league so far, but I've watched it very casually without being overly impressed. Although, in saying that, I think it will improve with time and patience. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023 | |

Of course it will last - the AFL couldn't possible withdraw it now.
Whether it will have the profile it has now in 5 years is another question.
I'm looking forward to having AFL to watch early in the pre-season, especially as skills improve and I become more used to the obvious differences in approach and tactics (ala women's cricket, soccer and rugby 7s).
I'm much happier to watch this than sookball or thugby. |

^^ Turn it up, I love AFL, but soccer is the WORLD game, absolutely ludicrous to even compare it to womens footy. Get Real. _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.
