2020 GF to be played at Marvel is the word

Very likely as the MCG will only be available up until the first week of October before it gets handed over to the ICC for the 20/20 World Cup. Considering the dire situation facing the AFL financially doubt they would have enough available cash to convince the ICC to give up their claim on the ground.

You're assuming that the T20 will go ahead as planned, with 16 different countries involved... the final is scheduled for Nov 15, don't know how long it takes to prepare the ground for AFL afterwards but seems like a Dec GF would be possible, as already mooted and given we need to get another 16 rounds plus finals in first

If it isn't played in front of crowds, it doesn't matter where it's played.

Will we be allowed to go back to massive groups by the end of this year?

Once that drop in pitch goes in it ain’t comming out until Feb/March at the earliest. To much crap recently with the condition of the Boxing Day test wicket to put that at risk.

Its going to be interesting, if football is able to be played you'd assume cricket will be, but then the borders may remain closed for a while after life resumes so international cricket may not resume for a while longer, at least not involving Australia.

Leigh Matthews on 3AW:

"I say to myself, 2020 is a survival season. How do we survive? How do we maximise revenues?

"To me, whoever ends up being premier at the end of it is less important than getting 100 [or] 140 games played.

"And if we can get more money out of best of three grand final, go for it."

I think this is an excellent idea. Best of three and if you lose the first game, you’re automatically credited with the next two wins. They should apply this rule retrospectively and reallocate all flags since 1959 accordingly.

Imagine winning the first one and then losing the next two. Losing one is bad enough.

Why not just play best of 17, 1 versus 2? That way, the AFL can limit the risk to the less well-performed clubs by dispensing with them playing any further games in 2020. Port to wear their clash jumper for all games.

Best of 3 in a contact sport like AFL is the most ludicrous, stupid notion I’ve ever heard. That “one day in September” suddenly becomes “3 days in September and October...” And you just know we’d win the first (a flag in any other year), then lose the next two.

I get shortening the season, but lengthening the GF is counter intuitive.

Either play 17 games and top of the ladder is premier.

Play 17 games, and maybe go final 4, basically two PF and 1 GF. While its OK to have 4-5 day breaks in H&A, surely you need to have a full week for finals.

A brilliant idea old boy, excellent stuff.

Great way to capitalise on our record although it does negatively impact on 1990
