The Port game earlier this year when we smashed them at the G was the closest it’s been to being just like the old days at Vic Park. The atmosphere and energy was like being back at Vic Park again. My memory’s not great anymore but I can still recall watching Sav kick 11 like it was yesterday. And poor Richo getting smashed by Voss right in front of me, I was front row and can still feel it. I remember getting a splinter in my arse from the seats, and watching the hot water getting turned off in the opposition rooms lol.

That happened at the Gabba in 1996; although we did wipe the floor with them in final round of 1996 at Vic Park.
Trent Hotton was b.o.g. and never played another game for us again, thanks to his off field blunder.

It's a long shot, but are there any Nicksters in this image?
It was taken in the outer at Waverly, but during the VP era.

To DTM i feel sorry that such a passionate supporter as you did not see a game at Vic Park. The atmoshere was closer to the Collaseum than a football stadium I started going there in the late 50's and it was a real working class spectacle/ Today at a place like the MCG it is cold and sterile. During a match this season I saw a collingwood supporter get almost ejected because he was too loud plus he swore - it maybe good for families these days but it just lacks passion and colour of which VP had plenty. My favorite memory was during one close game the collingwood trainer was running around the boundary line fanning the supporters with a towel. Today he would have got the sack for not having his mind on the job. By the way the crowd loved it.

Hehe I agree, nothing like it! I was in the cheer squad, so many great memories! The peanut man!

Best day of my life bar none, 1990 grand final, my sister got us tickets above the Essendon cheer squad, Paul salmons old man must have been in front of us he was being a total tool, 5 min to go and our Jaded hearts melted, we saw Matthews walk down the aisle pumping his arms and we looked at each other and said “we did it, we finally did it, we won” and then it was party on! When the players left the ground we went directly to Vic park, someone grabbed me, threw me in a phone box outside the tow hall and made me sing the song to someone the other end! Shoulda married him! Watching people climb the goal post and everyone hugging and singing simply the best and we are the champions til the players arrived on stage!

2010 was at the draw, watched the replay in the SPN bar in down town Disney!

I need todo Vic park again with Junior, please god , just grant me that! That my friends is heaven on earth!!!!

What about the day there was a fire at the cheer squad end and all the people jump onto the ground..

And the day that an opposition fan ran through the cheer squads banner before the game and he was chased around the ground by everyone.

I also remember jumping the fence and running onto the ground as a teenager with thousands of others when Peter McKenna kicked his 100th goal.

Was also there when he kicked 16goals in a match and the game was halted so that they could get people off the ground. It stopped him breaking the record of 17 goals in a match.

I thought this might have caught on again, I like it. Stems from two former trainers and Life Members, Harry Langdon and John MacGibbon.

It’s a tradition inspired by past Collingwood trainers such as Harry Langdon and John MacGibbon, who were loved by players and supporters alike for waving their trainers’ towels above their heads on the boundary line to rally the Victoria Park crowd and inspire the players into action.

Wouldn't know where to start, lol.
The game day memories are many and remembered with fondness. Cherished.

For the youngies.. scratching the surface :

Snooker on weekdays, Beer with the odd players at the bar after the game.
New members greeting and getting my members medallion handed to me by Bob Rose along with a handshake welcoming me to the club. My most Priceless memory.

The day a Fitzroy supporter dressed head to toe in Fitzroy colours standing in the members, loudly cheering his side non stop... and our members clearing a 10-metre diameter circle around him would go down as one of my funniest game day moments. Wouldn't see that these days.

A 'box' just outside the member's bar reserved only for those who had been members for 50years and over. I think it's been totally forgotten.

It was more personal back then, but the passion still remains.

Looks a lot like Jerry Seinfeld on the left and possibly Lester Ellis at the front.

My first post.
Very happy to be here.

This thread brings back some fond memories.
Standing on an esky as a kid to see the game. The last game I went to was against the Weagles (which I thought was the last game but Google tells me it was against Brisbane). I remember dacking a couple of cans of VB (yes, there were still cans in those days) to save a few dollars. I was there when Nicky lifted his jersey. Worst memory was when I was 15 with my little brother and getting a migraine & walking face first into a concrete pillar - the worst part was we lost to Carlton that day. I remember going to their final training session in 1990 and buying a cheap Daicos knock-off T-Shirt.

As a teenager myself & another team-mate got invited to a Collingwood training camp, which was great as we were both Pies supporters. Neither of us were anywhere near dedicated enough.

The main thing I remember was how bad the conditions were. It always seemed over crowded & there were queues a mile long to get a drink or go to the dunny, but I loved the atmosphere.

I always looked up from whatever I was reading to look at the black & white stadium as I went by on the train.

I do have another story about the 1990 grandfinal that relates to Vic Park, but it's a long one so I just thought I'd get these memories out of the way and say hi first.

Go Pies!

Welcome aboard Mick. Little did you know you may well have rubbed shoulders with fellow Nicksters in the stands or terraces.
They'll welcome your recollections.

It was the early 1960’s and we lived just on 2.0 kilometres from Vic Park

We were at a game and it bucketed down so at half time we walked home and dried out and with dry clothes back to the game -third quarter had started so the rain restarted and again we got drenched but watched till games end to again walk home drenched
