In a nutshell, we have too many handy types, and not enough stars. |

Go back to our 2010 gf team.
Name the players who were stars that year!
More stars that year than handy players!
And who won the flag?
I have banged on about the lack of stars or A graders for a while now

I'd add a 3rd group, developing prospects. I think this is our largest cohort. What we need is for a healthy number of these to become stars and the remainder handy players worth retaining. |

There was an old wrestler called Larry O'Dea who Jack Little always called the up and coming star Larry O'Dea!
He never made it!
A bit like your 3rd group...it is irrelevant to what gurugeoff was saying. _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

Of course he never made it....up against Killer Karl Cox, Spiros Arios, Mario Milano and Tex McKenzie, he never had a chance. |

Interesting point. I'd make an argument that our last 2 premierships were won on the basis of team effort, not stars.
We had players who played really well, no doubt. How many were actually elite players at that stage?
Didak, Swan, Pendlebury and Harry O made the All Aus team that year. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

I'd add Cloke and Thomas, who were both elite that year. H Shaw and Sidebottom (who I'd have given the Smith medal in 2010) were on the rise toward that status as well.
It was a more than a good handy team, that 2010 and 2011 team ; there was a lot of individual brilliance. _________________ Two more flags before I die! |

It was actually 2014 and was prior to the opening round of the year so your 2 years amiss with your point of view. Big error. That aside the world is full of companies, governments and sporting codes (Peter Schwab 2004 anybody?) whom espouse good intentions and ambitious platitudes and the Pies are no different.
Did such prognostications take account for the curse of Davoren, the Beams transfer and many other external factors?? Not really. |
Big error perhaps if I were a journo but here, hardly. BTW Pert has made the pronouncement twice, which was my point. _________________ After the epic draw comes the decisive knockout!
