why did you say Happy Holidays?

That's such an american saying. Why do we have to let american sayings into our vocabulary? So we don't offend others? Well, I'm actually offended by this.

I wish Jewish people Happy Hannukah, I wish Muslim People, Happy Ramadam, and I wish Indian people Happy Diwali. I don't say Happy Holidays..... why is it just Christmas that gets that?

We say Merry Christmas because that's what people get this day off for

Yep, pisses me right off

^For Christ's sake, let him do what he wants.

The word "Christ" is a very overt, doctrinaire term when you think about it, so if you want to make an issue of this the argument clearly runs in David's favour!

And like using a British Empire term over an American Empire term makes a difference! Or is there an Aussie expression of good wishes I've missed?

Perhaps this:

I was impressed how well our day went and that phones were left in pockets/bags and we actually talked to each other.

Yeah me too actually, didn't even get the annual heated debate between my racist bogan nephew (who I love dearly) and my painfully politically correct BIL. Spotted one nephew on his phone, and hubby got a call from someone on eBay wanting to come and have a look at a boat ( the guy did apologise and ask if he was interrupting! "At 12.30pm on Christmas day? Hell no mate, of course not!" Seriously, has that guy got no friends? Even my SiL was nice to me! Not just civil, nice!

Totally knackered today, thinking about doing a new power yoga tape, for relaxation, but more than likely flaking it on the day bed, if I ever bother to get out of bed!

Was planning on clipping the dog (wasn't allowed to pre Christmas co she looked cute, never mind she's wearing a fur coat in the middle of summer) and taking down the decorations, I want a clean tidy house again! Both kids are off to work in retail hell today, hopefully hubby will sell the boat, and I will get the energy to move from the bedroom! It ain't looking good!

Cheers, glad you had a great day!

And I'm really glad it ain't our turn for the next three years!

Um, guys, did you miss the quotation marks? I was being ironic. Laughing

Incidentally, my boss told me off for wishing customers a "Merry Christmas" on Wednesday, on the grounds that nobody actually says "merry". 'If you have to, say "Happy Christmas"', he said. What a Scrooge!

Anyway, hope you all had a happy holidays.

(By the way, it's "Ramadan". Mr. Green)

I know a lot of people who say 'Happy Christmas' rather than 'Merry' because Merry implies you need to get drunk.

Hi David, yes, I did miss the quotation marks. Blame it on the Merry (literal) Christmas. So, my apologies if I misread your original post. and yeah, blame the incorrect spelling also on the Merry imbibement.

Hope you and Lola and Ingmar had a wonderful first christmas as a family.
