Neil Mitchell resembles a rotting kebab with ageing facial hair.

always the first in with the 'witty' statement....... Rolling Eyes

p.s. I don't like Neil Mitchell much, I think he has a huge ego, but occasionally in his Herald Sun columns he absolutely hits the nail on the head

Im with Assasin on this one, people dont want to get their hands dirty, when i left school 8 years ago i did a 4 year apprenticeship in Hospitality, and that was a reason behind it.

I dont think we can blame any political party for this shortage, as the current federal government gives alot of rebates for small business who take on apprentices as i think the Labor Government before also did.

And when we look at other countries like New Zealand where the Apprentice has to fund their own way through to completion, you have to think what else we can do?

Off the top of my head i can only think of one thing, Parents, Teachers, Polly's think that Kids should always finish High School and that if the drop out rate is high, its a failure. I dont share that logic, as long as students have at least year 10 pass and they want to do a trade there is not point staying on. The amount you learn in a 3-4 year apprenticeship i think makes up for the time you have missed.

Pity someone with a big hammer doesn't hit him on the head.
