Seriously, unless you are vilified, abused or blatantly marginalised you should STFU and get on with it.

We waste so much time, effort, debate, money and eventually, ineffective government poilcy on trying to ensure that nobody gets offended. Nobody gets their feelings hurt FFS!

What a bunch of softcoques!

It seems like political correctness is still in transit to south-east Asia, to say the least. Razz

Racism in Asia is indeed shocking, particularly in regard to blacks and tribal peoples, but even towards neighbours with the same genetic ancestry. I can certainly say, however, that there have been substantial gains at least in Korea in recent times. Last year an Indian professor here successfully sued someone for racially vilifying him on a public bus. This was a huge breakthrough, and certainly seemed to have the full support of Koreans I know (admittedly Seoulites in the professional class).

Possibly the most important academic study ever conducted by Asians as part of a pan-Asian collaboration, Mapping Human Genetic Diversity in Asia, published in Science at the end of last year, will hopefully go a long way towards destroying many of the destructive racial mythologies that exist here.

http://www.hugo-international.org/blog/?p=123

The resulting map says it all:

Unfortunately, the racist media avoided it like the plague.

Asians can't be racist.

That's more than a fraction immature. I would've thought your knowledge of the world rather than someone else's shortcomings would form the basis of your moral code.

We could always get into an argument with 12 year olds on YouTube over whose racism is worse.

I totally agree with that article too.

I also think many people are missing the point with this KFC thing. Only somebody that can not see past colour or race would see that add as racist.
Most people just see it for what it is, West Indian cricket fans. the fac that they are black is insignificant unless you are someone who fails to see past race and colour.

What are the West Indian cricket fans doing in the ad?

Making a racquet, enjoying the cricket, and then enjoying rubbish fattening fast food.

Again, if you can't see past the colour of someone's skin, then you are the one with the problem.

Its got nothing to do with the colour of their skin. What I'm focussing on is how advertising portrays them acting in simplistic stereotyped ways. I'd say the same if they portrayed stereotyped Japanese, British, or whoever. Their colour really doesnt matter - its the simplistic stereotyped portrayal thats the issue.

How racist is this advertisement!!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtg07N-cX-4&feature=related

By ONLY showing white people, it clearly contributes to the racist stereotype that Russian people are drunkards who do nothing but drink vodka.... especially seeing a chess board appears in the ad.

Atleast, this is the conclusion pietillidie and rocketronnie would come to if they apply the same arguments they applied to the KFC ad.

Ohhh, and lets not get into how sexist it is either by the way! Surely the woman should also have her shirt off too.
