And yet...

A smaller share of the world’s people were hungry, impoverished or illiterate than at any time before. A smaller proportion of children died than ever before. The proportion disfigured by leprosy, blinded by diseases like trachoma or suffering from other ailments also fell. |

Bad news gets people's attention. Good news is typically not actually all that newsworthy. The news every night is thus strongly biased negative.
As for Nicholas Kristof ... Well... Sigh...

I see Kristof's article praises Pinker's new book. Oh, dear. Pinker should stick to things he has expertise in. (I'm assuming that such things exist.) |

Many years ago they had a newspaper that only had good news. It folded very quickly. _________________ Annoying opposition supporters since 1967. |

Capitalism is a wonderful thing |
Of course not. It is a wicked system that increases inequality by making most people freer and richer. _________________ Two more flags before I die! |

Pinker in general, or his last book? Both, I guess you mean...
Well, let me come back to this. It is at least more interesting than discussing capitalism.
(Caveat: I have not read his latest book, or the one that it is sort of the sequel to... though I've read reviews of and comments on them.) |

Reading his work would definitely be a good start.
(Personally, I’m most familiar with his books The Language Instinct and The Better Angels of Our Nature. I also found this debate on gender interesting: https://youtu.be/-Hb3oe7-PJ8 ) _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

It is said that his pedestrian writing makes your man Chomsky seem very eloquent in comparison.
The Better Angels book is the "predecessor" of the latest one.
(Is that gender link relevant to your "opposite gender" thread?)
[As I said, I'll come back to reply soon, but not too soon...]
