If we start winning gold medals they will.

Care?!?!

I'm absolutely pumped and can't wait to see our swimmers in action, what a squad!

The squad of 35 – 18 women and 17 men – includes five swimmers who are ranked No. 1 in the world heading into these games – Emma McKeon (50m freestyle, 100m freestyle), Ariarne Titmus (200m freestyle, 400m freestyle), Kaylee McKeown (100m backstroke, 200m backstroke, 200m individual medley), Elijah Winnington (400m freestyle) and Zac Stubblety-Cook (200m breaststroke).

Australia is also ranked No.1 in the world in four relays – the women’s 4xl00m freestyle and 4x200m freestyle, the men’s 4x200m freestyle and the mixed medley relay.

^ I only ask as outside of Channel 7's blatant cross promotion, the most I have heard about the Olympics is the outrage that Palesczxkkszkuzxkszxuuzzzxx is going.

Always enjoy the Olympics when they're on but with everything that's been going on, the excitement isn't there for me this year.

Weirdly my favourite part of the Olympics isn't any of the sporting events, but the "Parade of Nations" in the opening ceremony Laughing

Favourite sport for me is weightlifting.

All we seem to get in Thailand on TV is a bit of boxing and martial arts and bloody soccer. Some gymnastics. Last time I gave up. Normally I could go to a sportsbar with satellite but they are all shut.

"It was a mixed bag for the Aussies on the first day of tennis competition at the Tokyo Olympics, with John Millman and the team of Storm Sanders and Ash Barty winning comfortably, but Sam Stosur losing.

Millman was first up, easily beating Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.

Ash Barty and Storm Sanders needed less than an hour to get past Japan's Nao Hibino and Makoto Ninomiya, winning 6-1, 6-2."

Finals are 11:30am AEST on... starting Sunday.

Glad I checked! Will need to re-arrange sleep schedule. Cool

We have a swimming thread... I'll update it as we get into the swimming program.

Not the tennis?

I've been wondering how De Minaur got COVID. But he was in his Spanish base. (Not that he'd want to have been in his Sydney base.)

Football and tennis I see all year round.

Weightlifting is only something I watch when the Olympics or the Commonwealth Games are on.

Gold for Ariarne, Very Happy

"Ariarne Titmus has produced one of the great moments in Australian Olympic history, beating the legendary American Katie Ledecky in the 400m freestyle final.

The two rivals have been waiting for years for a chance to race at the Olympics, but it was the Australian who reigned supreme with a winning time of 3:56.69.

Ledecky, the five-time Olympic gold medalist, looked to be controlling the race from first place from its early stages, but Titmus timed her run to perfection.

She surged ahead in the last 100m of the race, taking the lead and never looking back to record the win of her career."

"Rising Australian star Kaylee McKeown is now an Olympic champion, blitzing home to win the 100m backstroke final with an Olympic record time.

Fellow Aussie Emily Seebohm finished fifth, nearly a second behind 20-year-old McKeown, whose time of 57.47 seconds was only 0.02 seconds behind the world record time she set in June this year."
