They were not - and were never going to turn - violent. That is just a dystopian fantasy.

Do you have video showing the protestors?

The DA had allegedly received death threats. He would be totally justified in being fearful of his and his wife's safety. These people had entered private property and were on his front porch. In several states he could have just shot them without telling them to leave and giving a warning.

In his situation I would do the same thing.

This is the gun laws thread. What’s your problem. Meanwhile, the real issue here is that the guy pulled a gun on peaceful protesters (yes, they knew they were peaceful protesters because they have very, very good security arrangements at their house) and has committed a series of crimes (it’s actually illegal to point a loaded weapon at people, however satisfying it may appear) .

Actually, it's not. In California it's even legal to fire a warning shot and if you kill someone who's intruding on your property, you are likely protected by the Castle doctrine.

I’ve heard that, in America, if you shoot anyone for any reason, it’s technically self-defence. Wink

Yeah, Black Lives Matter protestors have never turned violent ever. A mob of people barricading someone into their home isn't at all menacing.

**** them, he was defending his home and family.

You're arguing from ignorance and are totally naive. There are thousands of defensive gun uses every month. The lowest estimate by anti gun researches says 55-80,000 per year, upper estimates are in the millions.

BLM protestors have turned violent numerous times, becoming full blown riots more than once. Why if you have no clue what you're talking about do you continue to argue with baseless assertions and no evidence.

The guy obviously feared for his life, he was ready to fire on these people (picture shows finger on trigger, not beside it meaning he's ready to shoot not using trigger discipline). I hope you never have to face a mob but they can turn very quickly; there's a reason for the term "mob violence". People in packs aren't rational.

The thing that could swing is if someone starts shooting at a mass NRA rally. A few thousand people whip out handguns and start shooting at anyone else with one. So many dead and wounded that it would be impossible for the EMS people to handle it. And hopefully the first wounded is Wayne Lepenisbrain.

In a number of situations, actually yes.

In California, under their laws, if you shoot and kill a house intruder the law assumes you were in fear of your life etc etc. In several other states it's as simple as , they're on your property uninvited, shoot to kill and question the corpse.

https://www.nationalreview.com/magazine/2019/09/30/do-guns-help-people-defend-themselves/

The right to defend yourself from criminals and aggressors in your own home should be absolute. They're certainly not going to worry about 'reasonable force'.

Just looking back over some of the pathetic drivel in this thread defending the appalling actions of Jackie Lacey's husband, I see that he was charged with three counts of assault with a firearm. The maximum penalty for each charge was a year in prison. He did a deal and was allowed to enter a diversion program.

I also see that Jackie Lacey was voted out of the office of District Attorney.
