It's also a little difficult to understand - even at this late date - why Millane didn't receive a free kick when Robert Wiley - who was running for the Eagles - ran across in front of him and took the ball out of bounds to create the stoppage from which Sumich got that mark. |

In 91 Wiley ran into Tony Shaw who had the pill and was subsequently pinged by an egirl and penalised for holding the ball. It was at Vic Park and the crowd and Shaw went ballistic. I used to stand on the wing near the past players room. About 10 minutes later Wiley was running around and actually coaching. "Your free" "your hot" etc. Darren Millane grabbed a loose ball and was storming down the wing and Wiley deliberately tried to block his path. Pants yelled "Get out of my way you little c^&% or I will smash you. He kicked to Daicos . Wiley complained to the umpire "Who said "If he had of run through I would have paid Darren a free. Now piss off and get off the ground. I am gibing you a warning." At 3/4 time the umpire wandered over to Malthouse and pointed at Wiley, _________________ Annoying opposition supporters since 1967. |

Beware of Sam Mitchell though. By all means, interview him and make an assessment. But never assume that a former legend can become a master coach. We need to learn lessons from history, especially the immediate history. |
Pfft! Rubbish and fabrication. “One fine day a Summer doesn’t make” - Shakespeare. There’s a litany of games in which Buckley inspired brilliance from what many believed to be a sub standard team i.e. most of 2018 especially prelim against the all conquering Tigers, 2020 final against WC in WC under unprecedented conditions etc
Poor genius Clarko has had to pull that team together and keep them focused after all the on field and off field controversy and distractions, all of which were none of his doing…….oh, wait a minute |
Anyone who says "pfft" lacks credibility.
Your quote from Shakespeare actually contradicts the argument you are attempting to make. Yes I agree, "One fine day a summer does not make". Flashes of brilliance do not a champion coach signify. Moreover, many of those flashes of brilliance occurred in 2018, when there is significant doubt that he actually was the one who was creating it (cf Justin Longmuir and Hocking).
Are you seriously decrying the astonishing achievements of Clarkson as a coach, by counterposing to them the distractions and controversies Bux had to deal with? If I actually used the expression "Pfft", it would be appropriate for me to use it here. Thankfully, however, I don't. _________________ Free Julian Assange!!

Yes I read Malthouse's article in the Herald sun. Chocco would certainly be infinitely better than Lyon, but I think we should try to persuade him to come back to us as an assistant coach. _________________ Free Julian Assange!!

Lyon’s response when asked was totally uninspiring/ disinterested.
We don’t need another bloody “gf losing” coach such as him.
Also he “walked” on St Kilda without notice. A selfish prick.
I don’t want him. _________________ Woodsman forever |

Alas, poor Buckley! I knew him Horatio, a fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy. He hath borne me on his back a thousand times, and now, how abhorred in my imagination it is! Wonderful!! The poetic imagination of Shakespeare captures so well the nature of the current situation.
Alas poor Buckley. I knew him Horatio, a fellow of infinite strength, most excellent resolution. He hath borne Collingwood on his back a thousand times, and now how sad in my memory it is! My anguish rises at it.

^ Thanks for comprehensive list, Jezza.
Also would be combing through the current assistant coaches of all teams. Leave no stone unturned Pies.
We need:
a) Experience in the AFL system
b) Flowing from (a), proven knoweledge of the game
c)Emotional intelligence /ability to connect with and inspire young men
That is how Chris Fagan, Luke Bevridge, Justin Longmuir were selected.
We need to do likewise.
Assistant coaches: look at Chocco, and look at Mick McGuan. I head on Grandstand ABC today that he would be willing to put up his hand for a role in the future development of our team. Go Pies!! _________________ Free Julian Assange!!

I've already declared myself a strong advocate for Choco Williams as our coach, but I doubt he'll even get on the short list. Why? Because we have decided upon having a committee of 4 or 5 people make the decision. This ensures that the person selected will be a compromise/safe option. There's no way a really strong personality like Williams could get up with all committee members agreeing to his candidacy. I fear we will end up with a mediocre and safe candidate.
It's a bit like filmmaking. You get a script writer pitch a terrific film idea to a film company and they then get a committee to go through the script and edit it. The end product is invariably more boring and less vital than the original. |
