Leigh Matthews returns to the coaching staff at Collingwood.

Could you imagine it?

In 2012 Rodney Eade was appointed to the position of Football and Coaching Strategist, replacing Malthouse who was originally planned to step into that role.

Who took over this role when Eade left to coach the Suns in 2014? Is this still a position someone holds at the club? Or has the cost cutting seen this position disappear?

Matthews is 68, but has the ultimate respect of the AFL community. Could he fill an important role at the club for a season or two?

1. Would Bucks be comfortable with Leigh at the club?
2. Would Matthews go for it?
3. Would the supporters be happy with this addition?
4. Would it help Bucks? Or make life harder for him?
5. Is the the dummest thing you've ever heard?

Too late for this year. Left-field option for next year.

But he's on the Brissy board and probably prefers living in sun-filled Brissy...

I have my doubts he would even consider it, but if he did surely it would be post Buck's exit?

I'm going to vote 5.

Also, it was easier in MM's time 'cos there was no soft salary cap. They could and did throw big bucks at him. They can't do that now. There's no reason then for this to appeal to LM.

Matthews is yesterday's man. Tailed off with the Lions. Like Sheedy. Pagan. Malthouse. Worsfold. *gasp*Gubby Allan. Reinvent, even Wright is a risk.

Backward step getting Matthews. His time has passed. But at least it’s good to get some Contender names up so that we can debate each ones merits.

Admire you for thinking outside the box, Presti. However, it wouldn't work.

1. Matthews' best years are behind him;

2. He's on Brisbane's board.

If things went pear shape for Bucks then with Wright at the club I'd prefer we chase Clarkson. 🤔

If we're mining the Hawthorn well some more, I'd rather we chase Mitchell than Clarkson...

One of my most hated players, but from all reports, he has great potential as a coach and getting him young and fresh could prove a masterstroke.

Unlikely though given his appointments at Hawthorn as senior development coach and head coach of Box Hill.

I’d rather he cut his teeth elsewhere before we consider him. We need an experienced coach who is willing and able to deal with the problematic players assertively, ensuring that some have major attitude adjustments.
