Coincidental: Before X’mas had the sparky and his crew out for the same reason. Kept on getting “short-outs” intermittently in upstairs lights. They isolated it to a fan in my room.

Bought 3 fans online (choice magazine approved) to fit the 3 bedrooms upstairs. However, it might need rewiring 😱 If it does then I’m getting quotes.

Yeah, I know how to do the isolate the source of the fault thing, when after an hour I had everything unplugged and still couldn't reset the switch i called the sparky and my diagnosis was correct.

I tried to pull the switch out like a fuse and swap it for one that was working but, as the sparky told me, you can't do that they're screwed in.

Yes, I thought I could redo the fuse like the old days but....

Got a ticket for running a red light.

Except I was stuck behind a bus, the last time I saw the lights they were green and once the bus was out of the road I was turning left, not barreling through a red light being dangerous. Apparently the light had been red for 1 second when I was snapped. 1 second.

$413 and 3 demerit points for rolling around a corner at 15kmph 1 second after the light turned red, when sensible places let you turn left (or the equivalent ) through a red light at any time.

Fkn bullshit.

Victoria- The Fine State!!!

My first and only red light fine I got over 0.5 second as I was halfway into the intersection when the car in front decided to do a u-turn.

The problem with cameras, no discretion. Got pulled over by the cops once for running a red light and they just gave me a warning.

The bloke next door was forever getting 1 and 2 points for being a km over the limit or as bad camera in Dandenong road. He used to sell the points for a 100 bucks a point plus a 100 dollar bonus. My late mate (who rarely drove) and I copped a heap of dollars off this bloke who was a travelling salesman.

What he never knew was that we had a mate who worked for the mob doing the photos and for a 6 pack the fines disappeared.

The coppers in Thailand let 12 year olds without licence or helmet ride past on motorbikes and only pull over foreignors who are doing nothing wrong to solicit bribes.

It's clearly a simple case of revenue raising but with all the do-gooders supporting the government's approach to fining drivers, it won't change anytime soon. Meanwhile, our driving culture is still the worst I have come across.

You are kidding. This I see daily in Thailand in a city of about 250000

a, Poor or non existant signalling whne cjamging lanes or turning righy or left.

B. Motorbikes going the wrong way or on the footpath to avoid doing U turns.
c. Young kids 10-16 riding motorbikes with multiple pinion passengers and no helenets as well as being unlicensed.

d. Motorists doing u turns without indicatung or parking in the middlle of the road while they run errands.

e, Red lights regularly ignored,

F. parking motorbikes or cars in front of businesses in such a way that it is difficult to get in.

g. Contempt for stop signs.

h. Speeding up when an emergency vehicle is coming in either direction

There are something in the vicinity of 27000 road deaths here and they do not include thosw who die after getting to hospital Estimated another 13000 deaths.

It’s not revenue raising, Stu is bus is probably an exception, but every day I see idiots running red lights, including my moron husband. Arrogance, selfishness, it’s just not wot they it, people running down the inside lane and expecting you to let them in, and the road rage that goes with it,

Your correct our driving culture is disgusting, not as bad as Bali, but really $$%^%%$ shit and selfish

They had to decommission the pedestrian crossings here because on Beach Road which is full of hotels opposite the beach as well as a number of tourist related businesses there were over 100 pedestrians knocked down in a the first month by Thais ignoring the red lights. Ironically the main police station is smack bang in the middle.

An expat here was stationary at the lights and a 13 year old on a motorbike crahed into him from behind after weaving through the cars. The rider and his pillion passenger were seriously hurt. The coppers booked the expat and told him he had to about 10000 dollars or he would go to jail. Luckily he had one of the rear mounted cameras and there were a number of witnesses so he contacted the US embassy and they sent a lawyer down and the Thai coppers were told that this would end up ion Fox news with the footage and the Thais would be humiliated world wide. The case was dropped. The bloke wore the cost of damage to his car and claimed it on insurance.

Note also, seeing that P4S seems to have declared that today is Grammar Nazi Wednesday, the incorrect usage above. "Internet" is a proper noun and is always capitalised. The comma after "disruption" is absurd. Full stop or semi-colon please. The comma after "available" is almost equally wrong and should be a semi-colon. The comma after "emergency calls" is spurious and should be removed. The one after "alternative" can stand, though many would say that leaving it out would have been better.

Grand total: four commas, three flat wrong, one more-or-less correct.

Dear Mrs Telstra, your boy just scored 25% on his basic English test. Does he have learning difficulties? Does the family speak English at home? Please make an urgent appointment to speak with our remedial learning specialist.

Agreed on the first two (atrociously) misplaced commas, but I'd probably let the third (after 'calls') stand. I do have to disagree with you on capitalising 'Internet', though – while that was standard until relatively recently, many dictionaries including Macquarie have started to recommend treating it as a generic noun as it is seen to have passed into common usage. I feel comfortable with that and feel that capitalising is unnecessary and distracting.

(Though there may still be bones to pick with them: surely it's not your internet that is impacted, but rather your internet connection! We shall otherwise choose to ignore their creative spelling of 'will' in the second sentence and generously presume that they are merely expressing their appreciation of a certain Australian comedian.)
