Praise seems beside the point – non-Indigenous people aren’t ever going to disappear en masse from the country and nobody expects them to. So the idea must surely be a belated agreement that recognises and factors in Indigenous demands + offers an actual say in how the country is run, particularly regarding traditional lands and communities. NZ seems to be the ideal model here.

I'd be very careful about adopting the Kiwi model, there's some serious differences in the situation. For a start, the Maori tribes are far more homogenous than the Australian Aboriginals.

You could use it as a starting place maybe.

Can you give some examples of how they get more of a say?

It’s not really for me to say, but some random ideas off the top of my head might be dedicated Indigenous seats in parliament (as per NZ; in our case perhaps it could be an additional six senators, one for each state, that only Indigenous people vote for); local authorities that governments must consult with and agree with before making decisions specifically related to, say, remote communities or Indigenous people more broadly; perhaps some form of reparations; and the capacity for the establishment of autonomous regions as exist in the US and Canada.

In any case, this would probably be a good place to start:

Thanks for that. I'll get across the detail because it's something I should know more about.
