1970 really was, for the most part, a dreadful year. April 10, September 18 and 26, October 4. Awful days.

At least Mozart never broke up.

The album was released 27 November 1970.

Another magnificent song:

My 20 favourite Doors songs to mark the moment. Greatest rock frontman of all time. And what a voice.

Break on Through - the first sounds we heard from them when we put on their first vinyl: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFeUko-lQHg

Soul Kitchen - the little Robbie Krieger motif was the anchor for one of the weirdest sets of lyrics ever used in a love song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLbfviLC09k

Alabama Song - the only rock album from 1967 with a song by Brecht and Weill: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbtEkZIvMAg

You'll know this one - one of the handful of greatest songs ever https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKU74Uns9_0

Back Door Man - Willie Dixon and Howlin' Wolf never hit any of these notes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTwNzhLvRGs

The End - How else could you start Apocalypse Now?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXqPNlng6uI

Love Me Two Times - a lovely blues with the juxtaposition of Jim's voice and Ray's harpsichord: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVez4RS7IJw

People really are strange: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sezc05A4s2g

When The Music's Over - that "Soul Kitchen" motif turned into a nightmare: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOJSmXSFCWk

Five to One - "No-one here gets out alive": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpDFll30XZU

The Changeling - the opening sounds of one of music's greatest accomplishments: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpHJcwnZY34

Love Her Madly - the perfect 2-minute single: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvI4c2EjpvM

Been Down So Long - with Jim, "just a twelve-bar" was never a thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJuDD93JbOw

Any thoughts we ever had of visiting Los Angeles were swept aside by this monstrous vision: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHXjcdNIN-Q

It seems like JLH wrote this one with Jim in mind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dV0buYqrRo4

WASP - Jim losing the poetic plot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bdC7k2Nu4s

There's a killer on the road - that hypnotic voice with those beautiful electric piano creations: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7G2-FPlvY58

The opening sounds from "Absolutely Live" - a killer cover of a Bo Diddley number from one of the truly great live albums: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szseZxtHWGU

The Celebration of the Lizard - no explanation is necessary (or, frankly, possible): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ashTaoGrR2o&list=RDashTaoGrR2o&start_radio=1

The Future is uncertain and the end is always near: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pEMd1SdkAE

Actually, no, 21 - the Crystal Ship - just a beautiful ballad with evocative lyrics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bU1sLx1tjPY&list=RDbU1sLx1tjPY&index=1

I'm a fan but can't agree with "Greatest rock frontman of all time". He was greatly influenced by Arthur Lee of Love, which are a fantastic band from the 60s that are not very well known but well worth checking out if you like The Doors.

I always thought Michael Hutchence was the reincarnation of Morrison.

Being 10 years old when Morrison died likely meant he got an incomplete handover.

It was more the physical resemblance, both features and the way they moved on stage.
