Numbers on SS shirts. Why ?

What's the point of Shield players wearing a number on their backs, but no name ?

Unless you're at the ground and (presumably) have bought a card, indicating who's wearing number 34 or 17 etc, how do you know who's who ?

I watched some WBBL play and those Women have numbers, but also names. So do IPL players.

Although it'd be better if the names were above their numbers, instead of one of the sponsors.
