More what makes me angry

Friggin digusting by the Australian Goverment and especially Christian Porter and Alexander Downer.
https://insidestory.org.au/bernard-collaerys-bombshell/
Most of all, though, he paints an invidious picture of Alexander Downer, who was foreign minister for all the period from Timor’s move towards independence to the ratification of treaties in 2006 deferring any redrafting of the maritime border for thirty years and giving Australia half the revenue from Greater Sunrise. Downer was in thrall to Woodside Petroleum, Collaery believes, and came to identify its commercial interest with the national interest...." _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |

Man, that’s a throwback! I remember discussing that on here 10+ years ago.
I’ve been following that saga for a while. Should be the biggest story in Australia, but has mostly been kept off the front pages – thanks for the link! _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace

re: Coon cheese, I wasn’t aware of this (from Jezza’s article):
Quote: | “Initially, Dairy Farmers said it was named after Edward Coon, who revolutionised the speeding process of making cheese,” he told AAP.
“But I’ve questioned the authenticity of that story.”
He claimed the cheese, which had formerly been manufactured by Kraft, previously had a black wrapping and was named Coon as a joke. |
Honestly wouldn’t be surprised if that were the case, and I’d wholeheartedly support changing the name if so. But it’s still worth asking why left-liberal discourse is so fixated on symbols as a substitute for meaningful structural change. (Also, don’t want to be cynical, but is it coincidental that Thomas had to apologise just the other day for trying to justify not hiring non-white actors for his show?) _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |
